Gujarat’s COVID-19 case count mounted to 69,986 on Saturday with the addition of 1,101 patients while 23 people died, including 10 in Surat, taking the toll to 2,629, the state health department said.
A total of 1,135 patients were discharged in the day, taking the count of recoveries to 52,827, the department said.

A total of 26,272 samples were tested in the last 24 hours in the state, it said, adding that the average rate of conducting tests in the state now stands at 404.18 tests per day per million, it said.
9,56,645 samples have been tested so far in the state, it added.
At 226, Surat reported the highest number of cases in the day in the state, taking the total count to 15,588.
With ten deaths, the number of fatalities in Surat in the district went up to 678.
Ahmedabad added 158 patients, raising the number of cases to 27,745, the department said, adding the toll rose to 1,630 with five deaths.

Apart from Surat and Ahmedabad, Junagadh, Kutch, Vadodara, Amreli, and Gandhinagar reported two deaths each, the department said.
Meanwhile, Surat also reported the highest number of recoveries in the state with 549 patients being discharged in the day. The count of recovered cases in the district now stands at 12,008.
The number of recovered cases in Ahmedabad rose to 22,393 with 121 patients getting discharged in the day.
During the day, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and his deputy Nitin Patel visited Bhavnagar and Jamnagar to take stock of the preparedness of the administration to deal with the pandemic.
Interacting with reporters, the CM said the government continues to ramp up the daily number of tests.
He said the number of tests and screening of people entering Bhavnagar will be increased.

Surat cases rise by 226 to 15,588; 10 die
The number of COVID-19 cases in Surat district rose by 226 on Saturday, which is the highest in the state, to 15,588, the health department said.
At 10, Surat also reported the highest number of fatalities in the day in the state which counted 23 deaths.
Of the 10 fatalities, six people died in Surat city and four in rural areas, it said.
The cumulative death toll in Surat district now stands at 678, officials said, adding that 540 of them died in Surat city while 138 succumbed to the infection in rural areas.
The number of recovered cases rose to 12,008 with 549 patients, including 502 in the city and 47 in rural parts, getting discharged in the day.
Udhna and Rander localities in Surat reported 26 new cases each in the day.
At 2,521, Katargam locality has logged 2,521 cases so far, Surat Municipal Corporation said in its daily bulletin.
The civic body has surveyed 8,78,113 people for suspected infection and a total of 31,177 people are quarantined in the city.
At 720, Kamrej taluka in Surat district has reported the highest number of cases so far followed by Choryasi at 460.
At 26, the highest number of fatalities were reported in Olpad taluka.
A total of 5,582 people remain quarantined in rural parts.

Ahmedabad cases up by 158 to 27,745; five die
Ahmedabad district reported 158 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking the total count to 27,745, the Gujarat health department said.
The death toll due to the pandemic in the district rose to 1,630 with five new fatalities, it said.
The number of recovered cases rose to 22,393 after 121 patients were discharged on Saturday.
Out of 158 new cases, Ahmedabad city reported 139, while the rural parts reported 19 cases.
All five deaths were reported in Ahmedabad city.
Ahmedabad city now accounts for 26,340 COVID-19 cases out of the total 27,745 cases in the district, it said, adding that rural areas have reported 1,405 cases.
Rural areas now have 108 active cases while the number of recovered cases rose to 1,238 on Saturday with 18 more people being discharged.
The number of micro containment areas in Ahmedabad has risen to 254, the municipal corporation said.
The civic body said that suspected cases in new containment areas will be subject to intense surveillance and testing.
