Gujarat on Sunday reported 1,272 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total count of infections to 95,155, while the death toll crossed the 3,000-mark and rose to 3,008 with 17 patients, including five in Surat, succumbing to the infection, the Health department said.

With 1,095 patients getting discharged in the day, the number of recoveries mounted to 76,757.
Of the 17 fatalities, five deaths occurred in Surat district while four patients died in Ahmedabad.
Bhavnagar and Vadodara reported two deaths each while one fatality each occurred in Amreli, Banaskantha, Jamnagar, and Sabarkantha, it said.
The state now has 15,390 active cases with the COVID-19 case recovery rate of 80.67 percent.

At 257, Surat reported the highest number of cases in the state in the day, the department said in a release.
Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Jamnagar added over 100 cases each in the day at 169, 128, 119, and 106, respectively, it said.
Elsewhere, Bhavnagar reported 68 cases, Gandhinagar 49, Panchmahal 35, Bharuch 30, Kutch 26, Morbi 23, Amreli 21, Banaskantha, and Surendranagar 18 each, Dahod and Mehsana 17 each, Patan 15, Devbhumi Dwarka 14, Gir Somnath 13, Kheda 12, etc.
A total of 69,488 samples were tested in the last 24 hours which comes at the rate of 1,069.05 tests per day per million population, the release said.
The state has so far tested 22,65,473 samples, it said.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 95,155, new cases 1,272, deaths 3,008, discharged 76,757, active cases 15,390 and people tested so far 22,65,473.
Surat case tally rises to 20,855; 191 recover
Surat district on Sunday reported 257 new COVID-19 cases, taking its infection count to 20,855, the state health department said.
The cumulative death toll rose to 809 with five fatalities, including three in the city and two in rural areas, a release said.
With 191 patients getting discharged in the day, including 128 in Surat and 63 in rural areas, the number of recoveries in the district rose to 17,158, it said.
Of the 257 new cases, Surat city added 174 patients while 83 cases were reported from rural areas.
Surat Municipal Commissioner BN Pani said 994 COVID-19 patients have so far been treated using plasma therapy, which he said is one of the highest numbers in the country, which has helped to contain the fatality rate.
He said more than 8,000 diamond workers have been tested so far for COVID-19 before allowing them to work.
“Similarly, in the case of textiles, we have issued SOP for migrant labourers returning to work, as part of steps taken for the smooth functioning of diamond and textile units in the city,” he said.
The civic body is conducting antibody tests on labourers returning to the city.
“Workers are allowed to join work only after undergoing tests or else they are being quarantined in their homes for seven days,” the civic chief said.
“For the first time, in weaving units of the textile sector, we have allowed employees to work even during the quarantine period, bringing in a new concept of factory quarantine,” he said.
Ahmedabad case tally rises to 31,346; four die
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district rose by 169 to 31,346 on Sunday, Gujarat health department said.
With four fatalities, the death toll in the district went up to 1,728, it said.
A total of 164 patients were discharged during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 26,234, the department said in a statement.
Of the 169 new infections, 146 cases were reported from the city, and 23 from rural areas, it added.
All the four deaths occurred in the city, the department said.
With 23 new cases, the infection count in rural areas of Ahmedabad district increased to 1,782, officials said, adding that the number of recoveries rose to 1,642 with 23 patients being discharged in the day.
Out of 1,427 beds available in 59 private hospitals requisitioned by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, 884 beds are occupied and 543 are vacant.
208 out of 578 beds in isolation wards of these hospitals are vacant.
Also, out of 121 beds in ICUs with ventilators, 75 beds are occupied and 46 vacant, as per the data.
