Gujarat on Sunday reported the highest single-day spike of 1,335 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total count of infections in the state to 1,04,341, the health department said.

The cumulative death toll went up to 3,108 with 14 people succumbing to the infection, including five in Surat, it said.
A total of 1,212 patients were discharged in the day, taking the number of recoveries to 84,758, the department said in a release.
With this, the state’s recovery rate now stands at 81.23 percent.
A total of 72,561 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, which comes at the rate of 1,116.32 tests per day per million population.
Out of 14 fatalities, five patients died in Surat and three in Ahmedabad. One death each occurred in Gandhinagar, Gir Somnath, Kutch, Morbi, Rajkot, and Vadodara, the department said.
At 295, Surat reported the highest number of new cases in the state in the day, followed by Ahmedabad with 173 patients, it said.
Rajkot, Vadodara, and Jamnagar districts also reported more than 100 new cases, the department said.
While Rajkot added 151 cases to its tally, the number of infections in Vadodara and Jamnagar rose by 127 and 106, respectively, it said.
Elsewhere in the state, Bhavnagar reported 49 new cases, Gandhinagar 41, Amreli 23, Anand 14, Banaskantha 12, Bharuch 22, Dahod 17, Devbhumi Dwarka 12, Gir Somnath 15, Kutch and Mensaha 29 each, Panchmahal 31, Patan 17, Sabarkantha 15, and Surendranagar 21 cases, etc.
The number of active cases in Gujarat now stands at 16,475.
The state conducted 27,80,681 tests so far, it said.

Surat reports 295 new cases, five deaths
The COVID-19 tally in Surat rose to 22,605 on Sunday with the addition of 295 cases, which is the highest single-day spike for any district in Gujarat on the day, the health department said.
With five fatalities during the day, also the highest, the death toll in the district reached 894, it said.
A total of 303 patients were discharged on Sunday, the department said in its release.
Surat city reported 185 new cases and the rural parts 110 new cases.
Also, Surat city reported 239 recoveries, outnumbering the number of new positive cases found in the district on the day.
Rural parts of the district reported64 recoveries.
Out of the five deaths, three were reported in the city, and two in the rural parts.
The number of daily cases in Surat continues to exceed Ahmedabad, even though it stands second in terms of the total number of COVID-19 cases so far.
As per the local health officials, rural parts of the district have reported 5,060 cases and 212 deaths.
As against this, 4,124 patients have been discharged, officials said.

The COVID-19 tally in Ahmedabad district rose to 32,524 on Sunday with the addition of 173 new cases, the Gujarat health department said.
With three people succumbing to the infection in the day, the toll in the district went up to 1,750, it said.
A total of 77 patients were discharged from hospitals, which pushed the tally of recoveries to 26,848, the department said in a statement.
Of the 173 new cases, 152 patients were from Ahmedabad city while 21 cases were detected in rural parts.
All three deaths were reported in the areas located within the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation limits, it said.
In rural Ahmedabad, the COVID-19 tally rose to 1,914 with the addition of 21 new cases, while the count of recoveries went up to 1,758, officials said.
Meanwhile, an official said the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s Dhanvantary Rath – a van which provides OPD service to people at their doorsteps in an effort to combat the coronavirus pandemic – has served over 10 lakh people since mid-May.
Each ”Rath” is equipped with a team of doctors, paramedical staff, and pharmacists.
The Niti Aayog had earlier said that the model will be replicated in various states.
