With the addition of 1,101 new coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, Gujarat”s COVID-19 count climbed to 86,779, the state health department said.
The death toll in the state reached 2,897 as 14 patients succumbed to the infection during the day, it said.
As 972 patients were discharged from various hospitals on Sunday, the total number of recovered cases in the state rose to 69,229, the department said in a release.
The state has now achieved the recovery rate of 80 percent, it said adding that the number of active cases stood at 14,653.
As many as 60,808 samples were tested in the state in the last 24 hours, with an average of 935.50 tests per million population per day.
A total of 17,56,133 samples have been tested in the state so far.
At 248, Surat reported the highest number of new cases in the state in the day, followed by Ahmedabad which added 177 patients.
Elsewhere, Vadodara reported 119 new cases, Rajkot 99, Jamnagar 85, Bhavnagar 41, Kutch, and Panchmahal 32 each, Gandhinagar 28, Bharuch 27, Dahod and Gir Somnath 18 each, Banaskantha 17, Amreli and Junagadh 15 each, and Mehsana 14 cases.
Of the total 14 fatalities, five deaths each were reported from Ahmedabad and Surat while two patients died in Junagadh. One patient each succumbed in Rajkot and Vadodara, the health department said.
A total of 4,71,463 people are in quarantine in the state, including 4,70,847 who are home quarantined.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 86,779, new cases 1,101, deaths 2,897, discharged 69,229, active cases 14,653 and people tested so far 17,56,133.
Surat case count goes up by 248, death toll by five
Surat reported 248 new coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, taking the infection tally of the district to 19,194, the state health department said.
Surat’s spike in new cases is the highest for any district in the state for the day.
With five fatalities during the day, the toll in the district reached 777, it said.
As 174 patients got discharged from hospitals on Sunday, also the highest in the state for the day, the number of recovered cases in the district rose to 15,703, the department said in its release.
Surat city reported three deaths, while the rural parts reported two.
The number of COVID-19 deaths in the city mounted to 596, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) said.
The total number of cases in the city went up to 15,096 with the addition of 162 cases, while in rural areas, it rose to 4,098 with 86 new cases, local health officials said.
In Surat city, Rander locality reported the highest number of 36 new cases on Sunday, taking the total cases in the locality to 2,071.
Katargam locality, which is the hub of diamond polishing units, has so far reported the highest number of 2,935 cases so far, the SMC said.
In the city, so far 7.83 lakh people have been surveyed in localities where COVID-19 cases were reported.
As many as 27,903 people are currently quarantined in the city, the civic body said.

Ahmedabad cases rise by 177 to 30,197; five die
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district rose by 177 to 30,197 on Sunday, the Gujarat health department said.
With five more fatalities, all from the city, the toll reached 1,685, it said.
This is the fourth day in a row that Ahmedabad has been reporting more than 150 cases in a day.

A total of 172 patients were discharged in the day, taking the number of recoveries to 25,104.
Of the 177 cases, 153 infections were reported from Ahmedabad city while 24 cases were reported from rural parts of the district, the health department said.

With the addition of 24 new cases, the number of cases in rural Ahmedabad went up to 1,650.
This part of the district has reported a recovery rate of 91 percent with 1,502 patients discharged so far, including 14 on Sunday.
