In a concrete decision to uplift the welfare of workers, Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel kickstarted the construction of temporary housing facilities in four major cities of Gujarat this July. Under the Shramik Basera Yojana, the construction work is advancing rapidly. This initiative aims to provide well-equipped housing facilities at 17 strategic locations across key cities in the state, ensuring better living conditions for the workforce.

Notably, children of beneficiary workers aged six years or younger will be accommodated free of charge.

  • Temporary housing with amenities for construction workers at nominal token rate of ₹5 under Shramik Basera Yojana
  • More than 15,000 construction workers will benefit once the Shramik Baseras are ready in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, and Vadodara
  • State Government commits to enhancing living standards of workers in construction and other unorganized sectors

These well-equipped housing units, strategically located within approximately one kilometer of the workers’ workplaces, will feature essential amenities, including water supply, kitchens, electricity, fans, streetlights, security, medical facilities, and childcare centers. Upon completion, the Shramik Basera will benefit over 15,000 construction workers, enhancing their quality of life and providing much-needed comfort and convenience.

Housing allocation via portal

Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel inaugurated 17 construction sites under the Shramik Basera Yojana in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, and Vadodara. The initiative offers prefabricated housing units equipped with essential amenities to construction workers at a nominal rate of just ₹5 per day, ensuring convenient accommodation near their workplaces. To guarantee transparency and efficiency in the allocation process, a dedicated portal for the Shramik Basera Yojana has been launched, enabling seamless and systematic housing allotment for eligible workers.

State Government’s commitment to workers’ welfare

The state government is committed to enhancing the quality of life for construction and unorganized sector workers through various initiatives. To further support workers, the government has established 291 Annapurna Bhojan Kendras, offering meals at a nominal cost of ₹5. To date, over 2.96 crore meals have been distributed, benefiting more than 32,000 workers daily.
