Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat arrived at the Circuit House in Gandhinagar on Wednesday for taking part in the 47th Raising Day Reception Ceremony of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi was also present on the occasion.

Acharya Devvrat complemented the ICG for emerging as a multi-mission organisation and highlighted the role of ICG in effectively safeguarding maritime boundaries of Gujarat. He also highlighted ICG efforts towards apprehension of 236 kgs of drugs worth Rs 1,380 crores, seven foreign vessels, 38 foreign nationals and saving 69 lives at sea in last one year off Gujarat coast.
According to a Defence release, from just seven ships in 1978, the Indian Coast Guard, in the last four decades has grown exponentially into cogent force with more than 150 ships and 70 aircraft as on date and is playing a significant role in securing the vast coastline of India.
“To safeguard sensitive maritime boundary of Gujarat, the ICG had established Regional Headquarters at Gandhinagar on December 16, 2009. Since then the Headquarters Indian Coast Guard Region (North-West) at Gandhinagar has been ensuring 24 x 7 vigil through deployment of ships and aircraft. On an average, 20-25 ships and two aircraft are deployed everyday to avert any loss of life and property at sea,” the release said.
