Gujarat Minister of Industries, MSME, Cottage, Khadi and Rural Industries Balvantsinh Rajput on Wednesday inaugurated the Gati Shakti-Multimodal Cargo Terminal, set up by Western Carriers (India) (WCIL), at at Devaliya Station (WCGD), Halvad taluka, in Morbi district.

The Minister was speaking at the ‘Smart Supply Chain Conclave 2025 – Unlocking the future of logistics’ hosted by The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Ahmedabad.
Stating that PM Gati Shakti NMP has accelerated India’s journey towards achieving the goal of a Viksit Bharat by enhancing multimodal connectivity viz integrating the nation’s multi-sectoral prowess to position Bharat as the most vibrant and attractive economic destination, Balvantsinh Rajput said, “Aiming to realise visionary PM Narendra Modi’s goal, the state government has formulated conducive industry policies to boost infrastructure as well as create more jobs with many incentives for the employers and employees. Western Carriers’ new cargo terminal will bring down the cost of logistics for industries in Saurashtra and in and around Morbi. The India’s logistics costs currently account for 13-14% of GDP. This multimodal terminal will help drastically reduce the long transportation time. Hence, I urge the industry captains to opt for switching over to rail transport like Maruti did. With the enhancement of multimodal infrastructure, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies, industries can earn more and save precious time.”
Speaking with Navjeevan Express correspondent, Kaniishk Sethia, Director & CEO, Western Carriers (India), said, “The company’s biggest multi-modal logistics park in Gujarat, developed on a 30-acre land near Halvad, has connectivity to west coast ports like Mundra and Pipavav. The new facility represents a state-of-the-art multimodal logistics platform, strategically located to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of cargo handling. The facility is equipped to manage all types of cargo and containers, with a plan to include the development of integrated infrastructure facilities such as an inland container depot and warehouse in the near future. . This facility is designed to provide comprehensive multimodal logistics solutions for transportation via road and rail, utilizing both Container Rake and Wagon Rake systems.”
When asked why the company has preferred to set up another cargo terminal in Gujarat, Sethia said,
“We are actively scouting for useful location in Gujarat to build another logistics hub, as multimodal logistics is supposed to grow very fast going forward. Gujarat Government is proactive policies, and the fastest development of export-oriented industries and businesses make it an ideal destination for us. Our Devaliay unit offers direct employment opportunities to over 300 personnel.”
Pathik Patwari, (Chair, ICC Gujarat State Council; Director, Nexus Infratech Pvt. Ltd.), hailed the state government for supporting the cost-effective logistics in enhancing India’s global competitiveness.
The inaugural session was attended by Nilabhra Dasgupta, IRS (Deputy Chairman, Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla, Gujarat), Sandeep P. Engineer (President, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry), Dr. Savan Godiawala (President, Ahmedabad Management Association), and Girish Thomas (Chief General Manager – Traffic, JNPA, Nhava Sheva, Mumbai).
The discussions at the conclave also emphasised on accelerating India’s logistics future through digital transformation, sustainable logistics practices, the role of artificial intelligence and automation, and strategies to enhance supply chain and logistics resilience.
