Gujarat Minister of State for Industries Jagdishbhai Ishwarbhai Panchal on Saturday said Gujarat is emerging as a hub for food processing sector.
The Food Processing and Agribusiness Conference was organised by the Knowledge Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (KCCI) here on Saturday.
‘B2B & B2G Meet on Agro & Food Processing, was held with support of Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India. This was also the first road show in Gujarat for promotion of World Food India 2023 which will be organized by MoFPI on 3-5 November at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
“Food Processing is one of the thrust areas of the Government of Gujarat with a separate policy and special schemes to boost the sector. Development of Food Processing units & Post Harvest Management is also the priority area for the Government of Gujarat. The state government is giving lots of incentives under the Centre PMFME and other schemes for the development of food processing sector in Gujarat,” Jagdishbhai Ishwarbhai Panchal said.
He stated that Gujarat Government is focus on Agro Processing Cluster for the development of modern infrastructure and common facilities to encourage group of entrepreneurs to set up food processing units based on cluster approach by linking groups of producers/ farmers to the processors and markets through well-equipped supply chain with modern infrastructure. He appreciated the efforts of Knowledge Chamber for timely initiative.
Gujarat hosts more than 30,000 companies in the food processing sector. Gujarat has the highest share of exports of processed food in value and volume in India. The volume and value of exports of processed food has consistently risen over the years. Gujarat accounts for the largest share in the total investments in the food processing sector of India. Gujarat is a highly developed state in Western India with ample resources and initiatives to reform into the powerhouse for investments in the country.
DH Shah, IAS, Managing Director, Gujarat Agro Industries Development Corporation Limited, Hiranmay Mahanta, CEO, i-Hub, Bharat Patel, Honorary Secretary General, Knowledge Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaval Raval, National Chairman, Food Processing Council, Knowledge Chamber of Commerce and Industry also graced the occasion with their kind presence. Other senior government officers from Centre as well as State governments from APEDA, GAIC, DIC, SIDBI also participated with great enthusiasm and they created awareness about the various schemes of their respective bodies. The industry panel session also focused on what we want and what we do which was appreciated by the participants.
The programme was well attended and appreciated by more than 250 entrepreneurs, MSMEs etc. and also felicitated various MSMEs, SHGs, Gruh Udyog for their achievement. Apart from this, there were more than 15 companies, including millet producers, who displayed their products and services through exhibition.
