With 1,278 new coronavirus cases emerging in the last 24 hours, Gujarat’s tally went past 1.47 lakh on Thursday, while 1,266 more patients recovered from the infection, the state Health Department said.
A release by the Health Department said Gujarat’s tally of positive cases went up to 1,47,951 with the addition of the new infections.
Notably, 1,278 fresh cases suggest a drop of around 150 infections from the average daily cases of last month. The drop, however, corresponds with a reduction in daily tests.
As against 70,000-odd tests conducted on an average daily last month, the government said 52,465 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours.
Ten infected patients died across the state during this period, taking the toll to 3,541, said the release.
Also, 1,266 persons recovered and discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the number of such cases to 1,27,923, it said.
Gujarat has conducted over 48.58 lakh tests so far and the state has 16,487 active cases at present. Among these, 81 patients are on ventilators, while 16,406 are stable.
Surat still remains the worst-affected district with 270 new cases of coronavirus emerging in the last 24 hours.
Ahmedabad was on the second spot with 195 new cases, including 169 from the city and 26 from rural areas of the district.
Other districts where a significant number of cases have emerged included Vadodara (124), Rajkot (105), Jamnagar (89), and Gandhinagar (45).
Of the total 10 persons who died due to the viral infection during the last 24 hours, 3 were in Ahmedabad, 2 in Surat, and one each in Amreli, Banaskantha, Gir-Somnath, Patan, and Tapi, the release said.
According to the Health Department, Gujarat”s recovery rate now stands at 86.46 percent with over 1.27 lakh recoveries so far.

195 new coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad, three deaths
Ahmedabad recorded 195 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of cases in the district to 38,380, the Gujarat health department said on Thursday evening.
Three patients succumbed to the viral infection in the city taking the death toll in the district to 1,854.
The death toll in Ahmedabad accounts for more than half the toll in Gujarat which is 3,541.
In a week’s period, the district has added 1,340 coronavirus cases and reported 23 deaths.
242 patients undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the district were given a discharge in the last 24 hours. The tally of recovered patients in the district thus went up to 32,921.
Of 195 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, 169 were from Ahmedabad city while 26 cases were from other parts of the district.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Thursday declared 11 residential areas and apartment blocks as micro- containment zones after new cases were found there.
From Friday, the AMC would undertake a house-to-house surveillance and testing drive in these areas, it said.
270 new coronavirus cases in Surat, two deaths
270 new coronavirus cases were found in the Surat district of Gujarat in the last 24 hours, the state health department said on Thursday evening.
It took the case tally in the district to 30,426, it said in a release.
Two infected persons succumbed in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 965 in the district.
Surat also recorded the highest spike in cases in Gujarat on Thursday.
The district”s case tally is the second biggest after Ahmedabad where 38,380 infections have been recorded so far.
Out of 270 new cases, 176 cases were from Surat city while 94 cases were from rural parts of the district, the official release said.
In the city, the maximum number of cases, 26, emerged from the Limbayat zone, followed by 25 in Rander and 24 in Varachha-B.
A total of 306 persons, also highest in Gujarat on Thursday, recovered in the last 24 hours, said the release.
