AHMEDABAD, OCT 8

With 1,278 new coronavirus cases emerging in the last 24 hours, Gujarat’s tally went past 1.47 lakh on Thursday, while 1,266 more patients recovered from the infection, the state Health Department said.

A release by the Health Department said Gujarat’s tally of positive cases went up to 1,47,951 with the addition of the new infections.

Notably, 1,278 fresh cases suggest a drop of around 150 infections from the average daily cases of last month. The drop, however, corresponds with a reduction in daily tests.

As against 70,000-odd tests conducted on an average daily last month, the government said 52,465 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours.

Ten infected patients died across the state during this period, taking the toll to 3,541, said the release.

Also, 1,266 persons recovered and discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the number of such cases to 1,27,923, it said.

Gujarat has conducted over 48.58 lakh tests so far and the state has 16,487 active cases at present. Among these, 81 patients are on ventilators, while 16,406 are stable.

Surat still remains the worst-affected district with 270 new cases of coronavirus emerging in the last 24 hours.

Ahmedabad was on the second spot with 195 new cases, including 169 from the city and 26 from rural areas of the district.

Other districts where a significant number of cases have emerged included Vadodara (124), Rajkot (105), Jamnagar (89), and Gandhinagar (45).

Of the total 10 persons who died due to the viral infection during the last 24 hours, 3 were in Ahmedabad, 2 in Surat, and one each in Amreli, Banaskantha, Gir-Somnath, Patan, and Tapi, the release said.

According to the Health Department, Gujarat”s recovery rate now stands at 86.46 percent with over 1.27 lakh recoveries so far.

Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,47,951 new cases 1,278, deaths 3,541, discharged 1,27,923, active cases 16,487, people tested so far 48,58,505.
