Gujarat’s tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 1,24,767 on Monday with 1,430 more persons testing positive for the infection, while over 1,300 patients were discharged following recovery, the state health department said.

With the death of 17 more patients, the fatalities increased to 3,339, it said.
At the same time, 1,316 patients were discharged, taking the total number of recoveredcases in the state to 1,05,091, the department said in a release.
Gujarat has reported a recovery rate of 84.23 percent, it said.
Surat district reported the highest number of 290 new cases followed by Ahmedabad at 177.
Three other districts also reported over 100 new cases – Rajkot 143, Vadodara 137, and Jamnagar 123.
Among other districts, Mehsana reported 60 new cases, Banaskantha 52, Gandhinagar 47, Bhavnagar 38, Junagadh 37, Amreli 32, Morbi 29, Panchmahal 28, Kutch and Surendranagar 27 each, Patan 20, Sabarkantha 16, Gir Somnath 15, Mahisagar 14, Bharuch and Botad 13 each, Anand, Dahod and Narmada 12 each, Kheda 10, among others.
Apart from fresh cases, Surat also topped among the districts in terms of new fatalities, accounting for six deaths out of the total 17 reported in the state in the last 24 hours.
Vadodara reported four deaths, Ahmedabad three, Bhavnagar two, and Gir Somnath and Rajkot one each, the release said.
The state now has 16,337 active cases with 89 patients kept on ventilators, the department said.
As many as 61,897 tests were conducted for coronavirus in the state in the last 24 hours at a rate of 952.26 tests per day per million population, the department said.
With this, the total number of samples tested so far rose to 38,62,366.

Surat records 290 cases; 294 recover, deaths top 900
Surat reported 290 new coronavirus cases on Monday, the highest among Gujarat districts, raising its tally to 25,545, while 294 more patients were discharged following recovery, the state health department said.
A four-month-old baby and an 83-year-old woman, both from the same family, are among those who recovered from the infection.
With six more fatalities, also the highest in the state, the death toll in the district rose to 904, it said.
Out of the 290 new cases, Surat city reported 179 and the rural parts of the south Gujarat district 111.
Out of the six fresh deaths, rural Surat reported four and the city two.
With 294 patients getting discharged in the last 24 hours, the number of recoveries exceeded the new cases in the district.
Meanwhile, as many as 70 doctors of Surat on Monday donated their plasma and blood for the needy COVID-19 patients at a camp organised by a local medical association, its president Sanjay Thummar said.
As many as 37 frontline coronavirus warriors donated plasma and 30 donated blood, he said.
These 37 doctors had tested positive for the virus and had developed antibodies against it, a necessary condition to donate plasma, Thummar said.
Among the patients who have recovered in Surat are a four-month-old baby and an 83-year-old elderly, both from a family of seven who all had tested positive for the virus on August 17, family members said on Monday.
While the elderly patient had to be admitted to the civil hospital after complaining of breathlessness, the rest of the family members recovered in home isolation, they said.
Ahmedabad reports 177 new cases; 120 discharged
Ahmedabad district reported 177 new COVID-19 cases, taking its tally to 35,118 on Monday, the state health department said.
With three more fatalities, the death toll rose to 1,801, it said.
Also, 120 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, raising the number of recovered cases to 29,241, the department said.
Ahmedabad city reported 157 new cases and the rural parts of the district 20.
All three deaths were reported from the city.
Also, out of the 120 recoveries, 103 were from the city and 17 from the rural parts.
As many as 18 out of 1,703 passengers who arrived at Ahmedabad railway station tested positive for the virus, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said.
The AMC has been conducting rapid antigen tests on passengers upon their arrival at Kalupur railway station in the city, with positive patients either being sent to COVID care centres set up by the Ahmedabad railway division or put under home isolation.
In its COVID-19 bulletin, the civic body said there are 3,524 active cases in Ahmedabad city, with the west zone having the highest at 631 followed by the north-wet zone at 601.
The central zone has the lowest 327 active cases among the city’s seven zones, the AMC said.
Rural Ahmedabad has so far reported a total of 2,235 COVID-19 cases, while recoveries stood at 2,115, officials said.
As many as 58 COVID-19 patients have died in the rural parts of the district so far, they said
