Gujarat on Wednesday reported 665 fresh coronavirus positive cases, taking the tally to 2,49,246, the state health department said.

With four more patients succumbing to the viral disease, the overall death toll in Gujarat mounted to 4,329, it said.
A total of 897 patients were discharged during the day, taking the total number of recoveries in Gujarat to 2,36,323, the department said, adding that the state is left with 8,594 active cases.
With this, the COVID-19 case recovery rate in the state has improved to 94.82 percent.
With 48,966 new tests for coronavirus on Wednesday, the overall number of the samples tested so far in Gujarat has gone up to 99,55,664, the department said.
At 139, Ahmedabad reported the highest number of new coronavirus cases in the state in the day, followed by 127 in Vadodara, 124 in Surat, and 88 in Rajkot.
Among other districts, Gandhinagar reported 20 fresh cases, Jamnagar 17, Junagadh 15, Dahod 12, Kutch and Sabarkantha 11 each, Kheda nine, Bhavnagar eight, etc.
Of the four COVID-19 fatalities, one patient died each in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, and Surendranagar, the release said.

In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, no new coronavirus case was reported in the day. The cumulative caseload is 3,351.
With two more persons getting discharged in the day, the total number of recoveries in the UT reached 3,344, health officials said, adding that the UT is now left with five active cases while the overall COVID-19 death toll is 2.
The daily number of coronavirus tests and the count of overall samples tested so far in the UT is not available.
Ahmedabad records 139 new COVID-19 cases; 137 recoveries
As many as 139 persons tested positive for coronavirus, while one died of the infection in Ahmedabad district on Wednesday, an official from the state health department said.
With this, the count of infections in the district rose to 58,519, while the toll stood at 2,261, the official said.
At least 137 patients were discharged from various government hospitals, taking the number of recoveries to 53,358, he said.
Of the latest cases, 135 were detected in Ahmedabad city, which also recorded 131 recoveries, the official said, adding that four fresh infections and six recoveries were reported from the rural parts of the district.
Among the city’s seven civic zones, the northwest zone has 410 active cases, followed by the west zone with 394, and the southwest zone with 363 infections, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said.
The city’s SVP Hospital on Wednesday said four UK returnees who had tested COVID-19 positive and were found to have the UK viral strain, are being monitored in the hospital in keeping with the Centre’s standard operating procedure.
According to official data, the bed occupancy rate of COVID-19 patients in the district stood at 7.6 percent.
In private hospitals designated to treat COVID-19 patients in the city, the bed occupancy rate has fallen to 9.8 percent, the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association stated.
Surat’s COVID-19 case count crosses 50,000-mark, one dies
The count of coronavirus positive cases in Surat crossed the 50,000-mark with 124 new cases on Wednesday, the state health department said.
The tally stands at reach 50,006 now.
Surat reported one COVID-19 death, which pushed the fatality count to 1,141.
Surat city reported 105 new cases and 111 recoveries, while the rural parts reported 19 new cases and 40 recoveries.
The recovery rate in Surat city rose to 95.76 percent with a total of 35,975 patients getting discharged so far, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) said.
As many as 7,244 people are quarantined in Surat city, and 185 patients hospitalised in various hospitals.
Out of the 185 hospitalised patients, 65 are admitted in two government hospitals- civil and SMIMER, the SMC said.
In Surat city, Athwa locality continues to lead with the highest number of 7,249 COVID-19 cases reported so far.
With 6,069 cases, Katargam comes second, the civic body said.
In rural Surat, Kamrej has so far reported 2,577 cases, the highest among the nine talukas, followed by Choryasi with 2,441 cases, an official release said.
