Gujarat registered 6,690 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, the highest single-day count so far, taking the tally to 3,60,206, while a record number of 67 patients succumbed to the infection, the state health department said.

As many as 67 more persons died due to the infection, also the highest so far in a day, pushing the toll to 4,922, said a release by the department.

With 6,690 new cases, the statewide COVID-19 tally went up to 3,60,206, said the release.
Out of the 67 persons who succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, 25 died in Surat district, followed by 23 in Ahmedabad, 7 in Rajkot, 4 in Vadodara, 2 in Banaskantha and one each Anand, Bharuch, Chhotaudepur, Gandhinagar, Junagadh and Sabarkantha, it said.
Ahmedabad city registered 2,251 new COVID-19 cases during the last 24 hours, the highest in the state.
Surat city registered 1,264 cases, followed by 529 in Rajkot city, 247 in Vadodara city, 187 in Jamnagar city, 177 each in Mehsana and Surat district, 137 in Banaskantha and 130 in Vadodara district, the release said.
As many as 2,748 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the tally of recovered people to 3,20,729, said the release.
Gujarat’s COVID-19 recovery rate has gone down to 89.04 percent, it said.
The number of active cases stood at 34,555, of which 221 patients are on ventilators, while 34,334 are stable, the release said.
As many as 84.04 lakh people in the state have been given the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines, while 11.61 lakh have received the second shot in Gujarat till date, said the release.
Meanwhile, 100 new cases were reported in the adjoining Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in the last 24 hours, said a release by the authorities.
Also, 21 patients recovered and discharged from hospitals during the day, said the release.
Of the total 4,277 persons found positive for coronavirus in the territory since the outbreak, two have died, 3,699 have recovered, while 576 patients are under treatment, said the release.
