Gujarat reported 1,144 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, its highest single-day spike, taking the tally to 59,126, while two dozen more patients succumbed to the infection, 11 of them in Surat, the state health department said.

Statewide fatalities rose to 2,396 with the death of 24 more COVID-19 patients, it said.
The number of recovered cases in the state rose to 43,195 after 783 more patients were discharged from hospitals, the health department said in a release.

Among the 1,144 fresh infections, Surat reported 291 cases, the highest in Gujarat, and Ahmedabad 152.
The total COVID-9 cases in Surat rose to 13,110, while in Ahmedabad, the count increased to 26,184, the release said.
Among other districts, Vadodara reported 95 new cases, followed by Rajkot at 80, Gandhinagar 50, Mehsana36, Bhavnagar 35, Bharuch and Dahod 33 each, Surendranagar and Junagadh 31 each, Morbi 28, Amreli 24, Valsad and Jamnagar 19 each, Narmada and Patan 18 each, Navsari 17, Porbandar and Sabarkantha 14 each, Kutch 13, Mahisagar 12, and Anand, Banaskantha, Kheda, Panchmahal and Tapi 10 each, among others.
The death toll in Surat rose to 576 with 11 fatalities reported on Wednesday. With five fatalities, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Ahmedabad rose to 1,588.

Vadodara reported three deaths, Patan and Rajkot two each, and Mehsana one, the release said.
As many as 22,914 samples were tested in Gujarat in a day, taking the total so far to 7,13,006.
On Wednesday, samples were tested at a rate of 352.52 tests per day per million, the department said.
There are 13,535 active cases in the state, where 89 patients are on ventilators, the department said.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 59,126, new cases 1,144, deaths 2,396, discharged 43,195, active cases 13,535, people tested so far 7,13,006.
291 new coronavirus cases in Surat district, 11 deaths
Surat reported 291 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, raising the number of cases in the district to 13,110, while the death toll rose to 576 with 11 new fatalities, the Gujarat health department said.
Of the 291 new cases, 207 were reported in the Surat municipal corporation limits while 84 were reported in rural areas, it said in a release.
The number of coronavirus cases in the city thus rose to 10,540.
Of 11 new fatalities, eight were reported from the city, which took death toll in municipal limits to 476 and that in rural areas to 172, local health officials said.
The number of discharged patients is 8,884, including 1,693 in rural areas.
As many as 3,648 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment in Surat district at present, officials said.

Ahmedabad tally rises by 152 to 26,184; five die
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district in Gujarat mounted by 152 to 26,184 on Wednesday, the state health department said.
With five more patients succumbing to the infection, the toll went up to 1,588.

A total of 117 patients were discharged in the day, taking the number of recovered cases in the district to 21,118, it said.
Among the new additions, 141 cases were reported from Ahmedabad while 11 cases were reported from the rest of the district.
All five deaths occurred within the limits of the Ahmedabad municipal corporation.
Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad civic body said the total number of recovered cases stood at 20,412, which is 82.3 percent of the total cases.
While the west zone remains the worst-affected with 466 active cases, the north-west zone and south-west zone have 462 and 424 active cases, respectively, it said.
The civic body said it roped in more than 2,000 anganwadi workers to screen people by visiting their houses for symptoms.
With 11 new cases, the number of cases in rural parts of Ahmedabad district rose to 1,248, officials said.
