For the first time, the number of new coronavirus cases in Gujarat exceeded 1,400 on Friday.
The state witnessed a one-day highest spike of 1,410 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, said a government release on Friday evening.
It took the tally of cases to 1,20,498.

With 16 COVID-19 patients dying, the death toll due to the pandemic rose to 3,289 in the state.
1,293 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 1,01,101.
At 286, Surat again recorded the highest daily increase in cases, while Ahmedabad was in the second spot with 173 new cases.
Other districts where a significant number of cases were reported included Rajkot (144), Vadodara (135), Jamnagar (129), Gandhinagar (48) and Mehsana (47).
Four patients each died in Surat and Rajkot, three each in Ahmedabad and Vadodara, and two in Gandhinagar.
Gujarat has conducted over 36.78 lakh coronavirus tests so far.
There are 16,108 active cases, including 98 on ventilator.
With over 69,000 tests conducted in 24 hours, the highest so far in a day, the per million average has gone up to 1,062.72 tests per day.
The release added that Gujarat’s recovery rate now stands at 83.90 percent.
Gujarat’s COVID-19 figures are as follows: Total cases 1,20,498, new cases 1,410, death toll 3,289, discharged 1,01,101, active cases 16,108, and people tested so far 36,78,350.

286 new coronavirus cases in Surat
As many as 286 new coronavirus cases were found in Surat in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of cases in the district to 24,691, the Gujarat health department said on Friday evening.
The district’s tally of cases is the second biggest in the state after Ahmedabad where 34,581 infections have been recorded so far.
Surat on Friday, however, again recorded the highest spike in the cases in Gujarat.
176 new cases were from Surat city while 110 cases were from rural parts of the district.
One COVID-19 patient died in the city in the last 24 hours while three deaths were reported from other parts of the district, taking the death toll to 888.
252 patients, highest in Gujarat on Friday, also recovered in the district.
The Surat Municipal Corporation, meanwhile, closed four diamond markets, seven vegetable shops and prohibited 247 street vendors from operating in order to curb the spread of the infection.

173 new cases in Ahmedabad district
As many as 173 new coronavirus cases were reported in Ahmedabad in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 34,581 in the district, the Gujarat health department said on Friday evening.
152 new cases were from Ahmedabad city while 21 cases were from other parts of the district, it said.
Three COVID-19 patients died during this period, taking the death toll in the district to 1,791, more than half of the 3,289 COVID-19 deaths registered in Gujarat so far.
203 patients undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the district — 180 of them in the city — also recovered and were given a discharge in the last 24 hours, the state release added.
The tally of recoveries in the district thus rose to 28,792.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has deployed a team at Kalupur railway station in the city to screen incoming passengers. Out of 1,780 passengers screened on arrival on Thursday, 22 tested positive for coronavirus, said an AMC release.
