Gujarat reported 1,276 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, which took its overall tally to 2,82,449, the state health department said.

The daily case count in the state has risen from 480 to over 1,200 in just two weeks’ time.
Even as the state is witnessing a sudden spike in daily cases, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Thursday said his government is not mulling imposing a total lockdown.
“There is no need to panic. We had faced similar situations in the past too. We are not mulling imposing any lockdown as of now,” he told reporters in Gandhinagar.
Two patients died due to the infection in Ahmedabad and one in Surat city during the day, which took the state’s death toll to 4,433.
As 899 patients recuperated in the last 24 hours, the recovery count went up to 2,72,332 cases on Thursday, the department said in a release.
As the number of new infection cases is higher than the recoveries, Gujarat’s rate of recovery went down to 96.42 percent.
The number of active cases now stands at 5,684, an increase of over 1,800 cases in one week.
Surat district registered 395 new COVID-19 cases, the highest in the state during the day, followed by 304 in Ahmedabad, 129 in Vadodara and 113 in Rajkot.
As many as 24.13 lakh persons in the state have been given the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Gujarat till date, while 5.67 lakh others have got the second dose.
Over 1.37 citizens over 60 years of age and those who are above 45 years of age and suffering from serious ailments were also administered the vaccine on Thursday.
Nine new cases were reported in the union territory of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu in the last 24 hours, a release by the authorities said, adding that five patients also recovered during the day.
Of the total number of 3,425 persons found positive for coronavirus in the territory since the outbreak, two have died, 3,393 have recovered while 30 cases are active, the release by the UT administration said.
