In its endeavour to complete the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase 1 by August 2022 so as to coincide with the 75th year of India’s independence, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation completed a milestone on Sunday by placing the OWG (Open Web Girder) spanning – 7 Railway tracks at Sabarmati, says a release.
The Open Web Girder is 73m long and 12m wide. It is made of more than 550 MT steel members tied together by 18500 HSFG bolts. The total weight of the girder is 850 MT. The girder is launched using two winch machines and at launching speed of 250mm per minute.
GMRCL has expressed a special thanks to Indian railways for their continuous support in carrying out this complex work as well as to the Government of Gujarat, Collectorate Ahmedabad and the AMC for their support in land acquisition.
