Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) on Saturday announced that it has successfully launched the first U Girder in the super structure above pier cap of Ahmedabad Phase-II Metro Project between Motera and Gandhinagar, says a release.
The ground breaking of the project was done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 18 this year.
Despite the very severe second wave of COVID-19 and the intervening Monsoon, work of super structure has started in a very short time.
Each U Girder is of 28 meter length and weighs 160 MT and is launched using two hydraulic cranes of 500 MT capacity.
Ahmedabad Metro Phase-II adopted technology of viaduct Construction with Precast Pier cap and U-Girder methodology, which help in faster completion of Metro Project.
