Principal Secretary (Health) Jayanti Ravi and a team of senior doctors reached Rajkot where they will monitor facilities in government and private hospitals for COVID-19 patients and provide guidance to doctors on the treatment protocol for coronavirus and tele-mentoring, among other steps.

Ravi and the team of experts, likely to stay in Rajkot for a week, met health officials of the civil hospital on the first day of their visit.
She told reporters that the government is making efforts to reduce the number of fatalities due to COVID-19 in Rajkot district.

Around 15 doctors from other districts will be brought in Rajkot and stationed there to look after patients, she said.
The government will also provide additional ventilators and beds for COVID-19 patients, Ravi said.
Ravi warned private hospitals of action if they charged more than the rates fixed by the government for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
The government has taken serious note of the rising COVID-19 cases in Rajkot, she said and expressed confidence that the situation will be brought under control.

As per the government’s COVID-19 dashboard, Rajkot has so far reported 4,685 cases.
There are 2,006 active cases in the district at present and 89 patients have died so far.
On Sunday, Rajkot reported 119 new cases.
State records 1,280 cases; 14 die, 1,025 recover
Gujarat’s COVID-19 tally on Monday rose to 96,435 with the addition of 1,280 new cases, while 14 more patients succumbed to the infection, the state health department said.

With 14 fatalities, the death toll rose to 3,022, it said.
At the same time, 1,025 patients were discharged, raising the number of recovered cases in the state to 77,782, the department said in a release.
With this, the state has achieved a recovery rate of 80.66 percent, it said.
Surat reported the highest number of 257 new cases in the state, followed by Ahmedabad at 173, Vadodara 128, Rajkot 118, and Jamnagar 114.
Among other districts, Bhavnagar reported 40 new cases, Panchmahal 39, Gandhinagar 36, Amreli 30, Mehsana 29, Morbi 28, Patan 25, Surendranagar 21, Anand, Bharuch and Kutch 20 each, Banaskantha 18, Gir Somnath 14, Dahod and Kheda 13 each, among others, the department said.
Out of the 14 fatalities, three each were reported in Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot, two in Bhavnagar, and one each in Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, and Vadodara, it said.
As many as 66,363 samples were tested in a single day, achieving a rate of 1,020.96 tests per day per million population, the department said.
A total of 23,31,836 samples have been tested so far in the state, the department said.
There are now 15,631 active cases in Gujarat, of which the condition of 79 patients is critical, while 15,552 are stable, the department said.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 96,435, new cases 1,280, deaths 3,022, discharged 77,782, active cases 15,631 and people tested so far 23,31,836.
Ahmedabad tally rises to 31,519: three die
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district rose to 31,519 on Monday with the addition of 173 new patients, the Gujarat health department said.
With three deaths, the toll went up to 1,731 in the district, it said.
A total of 128 patients were discharged in the day, taking the number of recoveries to 26,362, the health department said.
Of the 173 new cases, 147 infections were reported from Ahmedabad city and 26 from rural areas.
All three fatalities occurred in the city, it added.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has said that its model of using ”Dhanvantari” vans providing OPD services by reaching out to various localities will be replicated in Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir as a strategy to control the spread of coronavirus, as recommended by the NITI Aayog.
As per the status of availability of beds in private hospitals requisitioned by the civic body for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, 871 of 1,407 beds are occupied while 536 are vacant.
With 26 new cases, total COVID-19 cases in rural areas of the district rose to 1,808, out of which 1,654 patients have recovered, achieving a recovery rate of 92 percent, officials said, adding that 58 people have died.
Surat registers 257 new cases; 3 die, 137 recover
Surat’s COVID-19 tally rose to 21,112 with 257 new cases, the highest for a district in Gujarat, while the death toll rose to 812 with three more fatalities, the state health department said.
With 137 patients getting discharged, total recovered cases in the district rose to 17,295, it said.
As many as 171 new cases were reported in the city and 86 in the rural parts of the district the department said in a release.
At the same time, 59 patients recovered in the city area and 78 in the rural parts. All three fatalities were reported in city areas, it said.
Surat city has so far achieved a recovery rate of 82. 2 percent with 13,533 patients getting discharged, as per the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC).
SMC teams have so far surveyed 2.17 lakh houses in areas where COVID-19 cases were reported, it said, adding a total of 31,630 people are quarantined in the city as on date.
