Solar power contributed the largest share at 21,904.55 MW, followed by wind power at 14,081.48 MW and remaining coming from large & small power and bio-power. Moreover, Gujarat has the potential for 220504.51 MW more renewable energy generation: the biggest potential is from wind power at 1,80,790 MW, followed by solar at 35,770 MW.”

This information was provided by Union Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Yesso Naik in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, while replying to question raised by RS MP  Parimal Nathwani.

According to the statement of the minister India’s total installed capacity in renewable energy stood at 2,37,491.08 MW as of 31 July, 2025. Gujarat ranks number two in terms of power generation in the renewable energy sectors in the last three years. Gujarat generated total 35,895.77 Million Units (MUs) in 2022-23, 43,039.55 MUs in 2023-24 and 52,002.50 MUs in 2024-25. India’s total power generation in the renewable energy sectors was 4,03,643.17 MUs in 2024-25.

The minister also stated that as a part of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) submitted by India to the Secretariat of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), India has committed to achieve 50% cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030. India has achieved this target of having 50% of its cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based sources during June, 2025 i.e. five years ahead of our global commitment.

Further, in line with the Prime Minister’s announcement at COP26, the Ministry is also working towards achieving 500 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil sources by 2030. As on 31.07.2025, a total of 246.28 GW non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity has been installed in the country, the statement said.

While replying to another question by RS MP Shri Parimal Nathwani, MoS New & Renewable Energy and Power, said that as per data provided by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Invest India, approximately USD 12,674 million has been received as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the renewable energy sector from 01.04.2020 till 31.03.2025. Solar energy has emerged as the leading sector attracting majority of such investment, while the western region of the country has received the highest share of FDI in this period, said the minister.
