Gujarat recorded 1,477 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday, taking its COVID-19 case tally to 2,11,257, the state health department said.

As many as 15 patients died of the viral infection in the state on Tuesday, raising the fatality count to 4,004, it said.
With 1,547 patients getting discharged, the number of recovered cases in the state went up to 1,92,368.

The state’s recovery rate stood at 91.06 percent, said the department in its release.
The number of total samples tested for coronavirus in Gujarat rose to 78,94,467 after 68,852 more tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, at the rate of 1,059.26 tests per day per million population.
Ahmedabad district reported the highest number of 332 new cases during the day.
Surat followed with 264 new cases. Vadodara and Rajkot were the two other districts that reported over 100 new cases, at 181 and 160, respectively.
Among other districts, Mehsana reported 67 new cases, Gandhinagar 64, Kheda 48, Jamnagar 36, Banaskantha 29, Amreli 28, Kutch 23, Junagadh 22, Bhavnagar 19, Patan 14, Bharuch 13, Surendranagar 12, Narmada 11, etc.
As many as 10 patients died in Ahmedabad, the highest in the state that reported 15 deaths during the day. Other deaths were reported in Surat (2), Amreli (1), Patan (1) and Vadodara (1).
There are a total of 14,885 active coronavirus cases in Gujarat, out of which 81 patients are on the ventilator, said the health department in the release.
The Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DNH) has reported 3,306 COVID-19 cases so far and 3,289 recoveries. There are 15 active cases — nine in Daman and six in DNH.
The Union Territory has so far reported two COVID-19 deaths.

Ahmedabad records 332 new cases, taking caseload to 50,409
The coronavirus caseload in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad district rose to 50,409 on Tuesday, after 332 persons tested positive for the infection, an official from the health department said.
The district alone accounted for 22 percent of the 1,477 latest infections reported in the state, the official said.
With 10 more casualties, Ahmedabad also reported the highest number of deaths in the state that raised the toll to 2,070, he said.
Apart from this, 321 patients were discharged from various hospitals, taking the count of recoveries to 45,160, the official said.
Ahmedabad city recorded 311 new cases and 299 recoveries, while 22 recoveries and 21 new infections were reported from the rural parts of the district.
As per a bulletin released by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the city”s north-west zone accounts for 494 active cases, which is the highest, followed by the west zone with 435 and south-west zone with 422 cases.
Of the city’s seven zones, the east zone has 291 active cases, which is the lowest, it was stated.
Rural Ahmedabad has so far reported 3,563 COVID-19 cases, which include 3,465 recoveries, the official added.
Meanwhile, bed occupancy for COVID-19 in the city’s private hospitals stood at around 88 percent, with 2,815 out of 3,204 beds across 98 hospitals being occupied, the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association said.
Surat sees 264 cases, 2 deaths; 284 recover
Surat recorded 264 COVID-19 cases and two deaths on Tuesday, while 284 people were discharged post-recovery, an official said.
The district’s caseload now stands at 42,730, which includes 1,072 deaths, he added.
Surat city accounted for 214 of the new cases and 241 of those discharged, while the rest were from rural areas, he said.
“So far, 30,255 people have been discharged within city limits, giving it a recovery rate of 93.46 per cent. As many as 20,586 people are quarantined and 496 hospitalised,” a Surat Municipal Corporation official said.
“The bed occupancy rate in civil hospital is 4 per cent while it is 8.60 per cent in civic-run SMIMER. These two hospitals have 160 COVID-19 patients currently,” he added.
The city’s Athwa locality reported the highest number of cases during the day at 41, taking its total count to 6,206, the highest among eight zones, while Varachha B Zone has 3,057 cases, the lowest.
In rural Surat, Kamrej taluka leads with 2,316 cases, 21 of which were detected on Tuesday, followed by Choryasi with 2,235.
Umarpada is at the bottom of the infection count list with 80 cases, he added.
Grieved by demise of MP Abhay Bharadwaj: President Kovind
President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday condoled the passing away of Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat Abhay Bharadwaj and said he had an unwavering commitment to social upliftment and development.
Bharadwaj, aged 66, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at a Chennai hospital.
“Grieved by the demise of Shri Abhay Bharadwaj, Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat. He was an eminent lawyer and had an unwavering commitment to social upliftment and development. Condolences to his family, friends, and well-wishers,” Kovind tweeted.
The MP was admitted to a hospital in Chennai for post-COVID-19 severe pneumonia care. He died on Tuesday due to multi-organ failure and his lungs were completely destroyed due to the infection, the hospital said.
He was a prominent lawyer and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in June this year.
Incidentally, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Patel had died of coronavirus last week.
With the death of two RS MPs from Gujarat, elections will be held for these seats soon, sources say.
