Gujarat reports more recoveries than new COVID-19 cases; 14 deaths

Gujarat’s coronavirus tally rose to 1,28,949 with the addition of 1,408 new cases on Thursday, while a higher number of 1,410 patients were discharged, the state health department said.

With 14 deaths, the COVID-19 toll in the state increased to 3,384, it said.

At the same time, 1,410 patients were discharged from hospitals, raising the number of recovered cases to 1,09,211, the department said in a release.

With this, the state”s recovery rate rose to 84.69 percent, it said.

Surat district reported the highest number of 278 new cases followed by Ahmedabad at 183.

Rajkot and Vadodara also reported over 100 new cases at 147 and 133 cases, respectively.

Among other districts, Gandhinagar reported50 new cases, Mehsana 49, Banaskantha 44, Bhavnagar 38, Junagadh 36, Kutch and Patan 33 each, Amreli and Panchmahal 28 each, Bharuch 23, Morbi 22, Gir Somnath and Surendranagar 20 each, Mahisagar 19, Dahod 14, Sabarkantha 13, Narmada 12, Devbhoomi Dwarka 11, Navsari and Tapi 10 each, among others.

Out of the 14 deaths, Surat reported the highest number of five, Ahmedabad and Rajkot three each, Vadodara two and Gandhinagar one, the department said.

There are now 16,354 active cases in the state with 89 patients on ventilators, the department said.

A total of 61,904 COVID-19 tests were conducted in a day at a rate of 952.37 tests per day per million population, it said.

The number of samples tested so far increased to 40,48,274.

Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,28,949, new cases 1,408, deaths 3,384, discharged 1,09,211, active cases 16,354, and people tested so far 40,48,274.

Surat district reports 278 COVID-19 cases, 276 recoveries

Surat reported 278 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the highest for a district in Gujarat, taking its tally to 26,415, the state health department said.

The district registered five fatalities, also the highest in the state, taking its death toll to 918, the department said in a release.

Out of the 278 new cases, Surat city reported 176 and the rural parts of the south Gujarat district 102, it said.

Also, 276 patients were discharged following recovery from the infection, the department said.

In the city, Athwa locality reported the highest number of 46 cases, while Limbayat recorded the lowest 11 new infections.

As per the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), a total of 18,314 patients have been discharged in the city so far, showing a recovery rate to 89.6 percent.

The civic body has so far surveyed nine lakh population in areas from where COVID-19 cases had been reported, the SMC said.

A total of 36,810 people are under quarantine in the city, it said.

Also, 727 patients were admitted at various hospitals for COVID-19 treatment in Surat city, the civic body added.

183 new coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad, three deaths

Ahmedabad reported 183 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, raising the number of cases in the district to 35,671, the Gujarat health department said.

The district reported three COVID-19 deaths, increasing the toll to 1,810, it said.

With 123 patients being discharged during the day, the recoveries in the district rose to 29,617, it said.

Ahmedabad city reported 156 new cases while the rural parts reported 27.

All three deaths were reported in the city.
