Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Himanshu Pandya inaugurated “Dr Jaimin Vasa MSME Chair” at GU here on Thursday which was promoted by Dr Jaimin Vasa, a release said.
“MSME sector is a major contributor to the socio-economic development of the country and called the ‘growth engine’. In India, the MSME sector contributes 45 percent of country’s production, 40 percent of exports and have 30% contribution in country’s GDP and providing maximum employment opportunities after agriculture,” says the Managing Committee of the Chair.
Eventhough MSMEs have all these qualities, this sector is facing number of problems and challenges like Finance, Marketing, Technical Knowhow, Research & Development, Innovation, Regulatory affairs and many more problems.
Dwelling at length on the reasons for establishing this Chair, the committee said, “Universities have a wealth of research knowledge, talent and network connections. Majority of the SMEs operating in Gujarat have no connections with their local universities or business schools and not using these talents properly or in right way.”
Through Dr Jaimin Vasa MSME Chair at Gujarat University, the Managing Committee of this chair worked out various programmes to resolve their various issues and challenges like, marketing, export, technical, R&D, innovation also will provide counselling and consulting to msmes for their sustainability and growth. Also knowledge exchangeability with student, startups and industries.
“Also through this chair we will sort out the problems which students are facing now like their training, placement related problem. Also we will help the students to interact with the industries expert and enhance their knowledge, which will help them for their employment or entrepreneurship activities,” the committee added.
