With the highest single-day spike of 875 new cases, the coronavirus case tally in Gujarat breached the 40,000-mark on Friday, the health department said.

The number of coronavirus cases in the state rose to 40,155, it said in a release.
14 COVID-19 patients died since the previous evening, taking the death toll to 2,024.
441 persons were discharged from hospitals in the state, taking the number of recovered coronavirus patients so far to 28,183.
As many as 161 patients recovered in Ahmedabad district alone, followed by 118 in Surat and 21 in Patan.
Of the total 875 new patients recorded across the state since Thursday evening, 269 were detected in Surat district – 202 in Surat city and 67 from elsewhere in the district.

Surat, the new COVID-19 hotspot in the state has also been witnessing the highest daily spike each day. Registering over 30 percent of positive cases,
Ahmedabad was in the second spot with 165 new cases, 153 from the city and 12 from rural areas. The district”s tally of cases has now reached 22,845, still the highest in the state.

Other districts where a significant number of cases were reported in the last 24 hours are Bhavnagar (71), Vadodara (69) and Rajkot (39).
Surat’s case tally is 7,850 cases, second highest after Ahmedabad.
Of the 14 deaths since the previous evening, five were reported in Ahmedabad district, four in Surat and one each in Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Mehsana.
There are 9,948 active patients in Gujarat, 68 of them on the ventilators while the rest are stable.
3.04 lakh persons are currently quarantined in the state – 3.01 lakh are home quarantined while 2,971 are kept in different facilities across the state.
On Friday, the health authorities carried out 7,657 RT-PCR tests. Till now the health authorities have conducted 4,49,349 RT-PCR tests in Gujarat. Out of a total RT-PCR tests carried out in the state, 4,09,194, have been found negative.

165 new COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad, tally rises to 22,845
With 165 people testing coronavirus positive in Ahmedabad district in the last 24 hours, its tally of patients rose to 22,845 on Friday, the state health department said.
Of these 165 new cases, 153 were reported from Ahmedabad city, while 12 from other parts of the district, it said in a statement.
Five patients died in the district in the last 24 hours, taking its death toll to 1,511, it added.
A total of 161 patients were discharged from different hospitals following their recovery during the day, taking the total of such patients in the district to 17,663, the department said.
Of the total number of patients who recovered on Friday, 149 were from Ahmedabad city and 12 others from rural parts.
The death toll rate of Ahmedabad which used to be around 81per cent of the total toll has gradually dipped. On Friday, it has come down a bit to 74.90 per cent. Gujarat”s mortality rate is 5.04 per cent, which has come down a bit, is still one of the highest in the country.

Out of the total 2,024 COVID-19 deaths registered in Gujarat so far, as many as 1,511 victims were from Ahmedabad district alone.
While 1,449 victims were from the city, 57 deaths were reported from different villages in the district.
Of the total 22,845 cases registered in Ahmedabad district so far, as many as 22,911 were from the city.
