As part of this collaboration, the Foundation is hosting a six-day course by New York-based architect Suchi Reddy titled ‘Feeling for the Future: Sensory Architecture’ from December 16 to December 21, 2019 at CEPT Campus, Ahmedabad. Through the course, Suchi has introduced the students to the principles of Neuroaesthetics, to allow them to explore how architecture is used in the contemporary world by thinking about how best the aspects of architecture can be influenced to contribute to the well-being of the people. “Mohit and I are honoured to be initiating this partnership with CEPT University, one of the country’s leading institutions. Besides having a deep personal connection to the institution, and the city of Ahmedabad, where Mohit my husband and co-founder of the foundation studied architecture, we are excited to be a part of and contribute to the vibrant creative ecosystem and academic excellence, the university is recognized for. Through the five-year partnership, we look forward to building an exciting platform for dialogue and exchange between the country’s and the world’s leading artists and architects and the CEPT community,” Feroze Gujral, Founder and Director, The Gujral Foundation said. Commenting on her teaching initiative at CEPT, Suchi Reddy said, “I’m extremely honoured to be teaching at CEPT under the auspices of the Gujral Foundation. Mohit and Feroze have been tireless supporters of contemporary art, design, culture and architecture in India and bringing to light the incredible talents of the Indian sub-continent internationally. The course Feeling for the Future: Sensory Architecture will introduce to the students the principles of Neuroaesthetics. To allow them to explore how we make architecture in our contemporary world by thinking about how best we can influence the aspects of architecture that contribute to our well-being.” In the course, the students are examining contemporary architectural experiences through the lens of Neuroaesthetics, Neurophenomenology, and Sensory Design, with the goal of informing our built world through an expanded vision of the ways in which architecture can influence emotional and physical well-being. Drawing on current research on the response of the body to aesthetic, sensory, and contemplative experiences, and mapping strategies at the intersection of technology and science, students are developing a project made of three parts, using the archetype of the house. The architect has also conducted a three-day wood workshop with the students which will conclude on Sunday. Based on readings assigned, and research on precedent, they will design a house in three parts over the course of six days. The end product will be a wood model at 1⁄4“ scale, and plan, elevation, section, perspective drawings, and digital visual essay.
