Having hit hard by various hardships the whole cinema industry is expecting positive and fruitful announcement from the Tamil Nadu government it at the inaugural function of the 2nd edition of Dakshin 2023 – South India Media & Entertainment Summit on April 19, said T G Thyagarajan, Chairman, CII Dakshin 2023 & Managing Partner, Sathya Jyothi Films here on Wednesday.

Addressing the media, he said, “After successfully conducting the 1st edition of Dakshin – 2022 last year, we had submitted a memorandum  to the state government explaining the woes of Tamil cinema industry and expecting a positive announcement during the inauguration of the 2nd edition of the Dakshin -2023.”

The 2nd edition of Dakshin – 2023 organised  by the Tamil Nadu Chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will be inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and the Union Minister for Communication and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur will address at the valedictory function on April 20,  Thyagarajan said.

T G Thyagarajan said, “Dakshin -2023 is the largest event of its kind in South India. The theme of this year’s Summit is ‘Culturally Rooted & Creatively Global’, which would have the participation of over 60 renowned speakers and over 700 delegates from across India, including Actors, Producers, Directors, Exhibitors, National Heads of OTT Platforms and Newspapers, Social Media Influencers, Writers and many more.’’

While replying to queries on how many grievances were put before the government, Ms Suhasini, Vice Chairperson of the CII Dakshin – 2023 said that 10 demands through sign language at the press conference.

Suhasini said that V Sivakumar, Minister for Human Resources, Government of Malaysia and M P Saminathan,  Minister for Information & Publicity, Government of Tamil Nadu have consented to  be the special guests at the inaugural function.

Suhasini expressed hope that that ‘Madras’ will regain its lost pride as the hub of South Indian Cinema nearly three to four decades ago.

Members  of the Steering Committee of the 2nd edition of Dakshin -2023, including Dhananjayan of BOFTA Film Institute, spoke.

Kamal Bali, Chairman, CII Southern Region & President & Managing Director, Volvo Group India said, “The South India’s Media & Entertainment Industry contributes close to 30% of India’s overall Media & Entertainment revenue with over 50% of the films produced every year in India are from the South.”

CII Dakshin 2023 will position South India as a global hub for media and entertainment sector, he added.

Thulasiraj, Director & Head – Tamil Nadu State, the Confederation of Indian Industry proposed vote of thanks.

Other prominent speakers at Dakshin 2023 include Mani Ratnam Director, Screenwriter & Producer,  Shekhar Kapur – Actor & Director, Allu Aravind, Film Producer, Chiranjeevi – Producer & Actor, Dhanush – Actor, Producer, Director, Lyricist & Singer,  V Vijayendra Prasad – Screenwriter & Director,  Chandrabose-Oscar Winning Lyricist & Singer, Prem Rakshit – Choreographer for the song, ‘Naatu Naatu’ from ‘RRR’;  Nikhil Madhok – Head (Hindi Originals), Amazon Prime; Vetri Maaran – Producer, Screenwriter and Director,  Karthi Sivakumar – Actor,  Sudha Kongara – Director, Taran Adarsh – Film Critic & Trade Analyst;  Nadiya Moidu – Actor, Anupama Chopra – Author, Journalist & Film Critic;  Anurag Kashyap – Actor & Director, Amala Akkineni – Director, Annapurna College of Film and Media;  Manju Warrier – Actor, Producer & Singer, Kartiki Gonsalves – Oscar Winning Documentary Filmmaker,  Sreedhar Pillai – Entertainment Industry Tracker, Columnist & Writer,  Sunir Khetrapal-Producer, Sunil Narang – Producer, Ajit Thakur – CEO, Aha Entertainment, R Balki – Director & Screenwriter, Basil Joseph – Actor & Director, Ahaana Krishna- Actor among others.
