AHMEDABAD, SEPT 21
HDFC Bank, India’s leading private sector lender, has conducted a nationwide virtual awareness session on Safe Digital Banking Practices for more than 1,000 teachers from schools and colleges across India.
The initiative, part of the Bank’s Secure Banking programme, seeks to empower educators with critical knowledge on online safety and help them guide their communities in safeguarding against cyber fraud.
The interactive workshop, enriched with real-life case studies, stories, and videos, explained the modus operandi of fraudsters and ways to stay alert. Over the past four years, HDFC Bank has been conducting similar awareness sessions across the country to build a stronger shield against cybercrime.
Key Topics Covered in the Session
- Cyber Fraud Awareness: Explained common threats such as vishing, phishing, smishing, remote device access, SIM swap and UPI frauds, along with scams disguised as investment offers, job opportunities, digital arrests and fake courier deliveries.
- Secure Online Transactions: Best practices for safe net-banking and online shopping.
- Preventive Measures: Guidance on protecting sensitive credentials and avoiding unverified links.
- Reporting Mechanisms: Steps to report suspicious activity via the Chakshu portal (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in).
Bank’s Perspective
Manish Agrawal, Senior Executive Vice President – Credit Intelligence and Control, HDFC Bank, said: “Lack of awareness causes people to fall for cyber frauds. It is therefore essential to sensitise people, so that they do not share confidential banking data or click on unverified links. The objective of these sessions has been to equip educators with the right knowledge to navigate the online world safely.”

The Bank urged citizens to adopt safe digital habits and remain cautious while transacting online. Customers who fall prey to fraud are advised to:
- Immediately report unauthorized transactions to the Bank and block the payment mode.
- Call the MHA’s cybercrime helpline 1930.
- Lodge a complaint on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (https://cybercrime.gov.in).
