The health of women in the times of their menstruation cycle particularly needs special attention and caretaking. And, during the extended lockdown to prevent the spread of pandemic coronavirus, they have to take extra care in maintaining their menstrual health.
The immunity system of women goes down while they are menstruating, and this makes them more vulnerable to infections. Therefore, it is very important to keep yourself healthy and well-nourished and at the same time maintain proper menstrual hygiene. All of us have our families to look after and while doing so, we often neglect our health. Let us all give priority to ourselves too and equally give time to ourselves. There are certain guidelines you can follow that will ensure that you keep up good health and are away from the reach of infections.
Paridhi Mantri, who is managing Consumer Insights & Product Innovation at Paree Sanitary Napkins, shares some of her insights on precautions to be taken during periods.
Paree is known for its innovative and heavy flow champion sanitary napkins. It takes care of heavy-flow days and keeps you complete wetness free. Below are the few important tips to maintain a hygienic and healthy lifestyle, especially during your menstruation cycle
- Frequently change your sanitary napkins in every 4-5 hours and give your private parts a good wash after each change.
- The sanitary pads should be of good quality and have super quick and high absorption power, to give you a soft and dry feeling all day. Make sure that you are using soft feel products to avoid any rash and itching.
- Some sort of physical and mental exercise is a must! For example, a light workout (refrain from heavy lifting exercises), meditation, yoga and breathing exercises will help promote an efficient blood circulation which will keep the immune system work effectively.
- A proper and balanced diet is a must! Your food habits talk a lot about your health and immune system. Make sure that you are eating healthy foods rich in vitamins and proteins. Also include fruits, sprouts, dairy and dry fruits in your diet. Avoid non-vegetarian food for the time being.
- Keep cleaning and washing yourself properly and make sure you are dry down there. A thorough wash with simple water will be more than good.
- Give yourself proper rest and avoid taking any kind of stress. Have a sound sleep of at least 8 hours and give ample time to your body to recover.
- Disposal of sanitary napkins is one of the most important parts of menstrual health management. Make sure that you wrap the used pad in a newspaper or the disposable bag before discarding it in the dustbin. Do not throw it out in the loose and don’t flush it down the toilet as it will result in clogging.
Do not tire yourself with all the housework, instead take a break and rest. Take up a new hobby or pick up something that you love but haven’t been able to accord much time to, like painting, dancing, reading for fitness and agility of mind. Keep a positive attitude and indulge in healthy habits. Make the most of this lockdown by focusing this time on yourself and keep your both body and mind fit. Make your family members adopt a hygienic and healthy lifestyle as well. Give yourself time physically and mentally during this shutdown. Work on yourself and keep glowing from out and within.
