AHMEDABAD, FEB 14

Living up to the dictum – “Every minute counts; Every life matters,” Marengo CIMS Hospital on Friday announced the launch of ‘Urgency for Emergency – 60 Minutes for Life’, an initiative aimed at empowering individuals with life-saving emergency response skills. The program focuses on ensuring timely and effective intervention during critical emergencies such as brain strokes, heart attacks, and trauma cases, thereby increasing survival rates and reducing complications.

Time is the most crucial factor in an emergency. Whether it’s a heart attack, stroke, or major trauma, every second counts: Dr Keyur Parikh, Chairman of Marengo CIMS Hospital-NE photo

This initiative focuses on empowering individuals and strengthening the hospital’s response to critical medical situations such as brain strokes, heart attacks, and trauma. Marengo CIMS Hospital’s Advanced Centre for Trauma and Emergency Care is fully equipped with cutting-edge technology and a highly trained multidisciplinary team, ensuring that patients receive immediate and expert care within the crucial “Golden Hour.”

Dr Keyur Parikh, Chairman of Marengo CIMS Hospital, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, “Time is the most crucial factor in an emergency. Whether it’s a heart attack, stroke, or major trauma, every second counts. With ‘Urgency for Emergency’, we are committed to ensuring that no life is lost due to delays in care. Our goal is to create a responsive and well-equipped ecosystem where timely interventions save lives.”

“We are thrilled to announce the launch of ‘Urgency for Emergency – 60 Minutes for Life’, a significant initiative across Marengo Asia Hospitals aimed at empowering individuals and community-at-large with life-saving emergency response skills. With this initiative, we also reaffirm our commitment to providing timely and expert intervention during critical emergencies such as brain strokes, heart attacks, and trauma cases. Under this initiative, Marengo Asia Hospitals will strengthen emergency response by empowering first responders through targeted training. One of the most effective ways to save lives will be ensuring that frontline individuals are well-equipped to manage emergencies before professional medical help arrives.” said Dr Raajiv Singhal, Founding Member, Managing Director and Group CEO.

He also added, “This is not the first time Marengo Asia Hospitals has emphasized the importance of trauma care and management. In December 2024, we hosted the inaugural International Conference on Trauma and Acute Care (ITACC) in collaboration with experts from Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA, and Harvard Medical School. This event brought together global leaders to advance trauma care and share ground-breaking life-saving practices and provided a platform for transformative knowledge sharing, making it a unique and impactful event in India.”

Reflecting on the past initiatives, he reiterated, “Despite advances in medical science, timely access to specialized care remains a challenge, compounded by inadequate awareness and insufficient infrastructure in rural and semi-urban areas. Reaching the right hospital, at the right time is the essence treatment. To strengthen the network of stroke care centres and mobilize nursing homes, nurses, and support staff, Marengo Asia Hospitals launched the Strokologist Program to train the community of physicians, critical care specialists, and ICU and ER doctors and empower them with the skills for timely diagnosis and treatment as soon as a stroke patient is brought under their care. Marengo Asia Hospitals, through this program, has already trained over 1000 consultants. We are establishing a hub-and-spoke network with nursing homes to ensure that each primary stroke centre is equipped with advanced technology, enabling immediate intervention to prevent disability and save lives in stroke cases.”

Dr Y.C. Shah, Neuro & Spine Surgeon says, “Time is the most crucial factor in neurological and trauma emergencies. In strokes, delays in reaching a hospital can lead to irreversible brain damage, while in trauma cases, uncontrolled bleeding or spinal injuries can become life-threatening within minutes. At Marengo CIMS, our specialized stroke and trauma response teams are on standby 24/7, ensuring that patients receive immediate, advanced treatment. By acting swiftly, we can significantly improve survival rates, minimize complications, and enhance long-term recovery outcomes.”

Dr Pranav Shah, Head of the Orthopaedic Trauma Program, spoke about the hospital’s capability in handling severe trauma cases, stating– “Trauma care requires speed, precision and continuous coordination between multiple specialties. At Marengo CIMS, we have developed a seamless, protocol-based trauma response system so that our patients receive immediate surgical or critical care life-saving interventions. We strive to reduce complications and increase the survival rates with preserved function.”

Dr Mukesh Sharma, Director of Neuro intervention & Stroke, elaborated on the hospital’s neuro-emergency infrastructure, noting, “Neuro intervention is highly time-sensitive. A delay of even a few minutes in Ischemic Stroke and Brain Hemorrhage cases can mean the difference between recovery and permanent disability. Through this initiative, we are reinforcing our commitment to providing the fastest possible neurocritical care.”

Dr Harshil (Zonal In-charge Emergency Medicine& Dr Aayushi Chokshi Parikh (Consultant Emergency Physician and ER In-charge) shares, “Effective trauma management is a time-sensitive task that relies on quick decision-making, coordinated care and the immediate application of life-saving interventions in the ER. Complex polytrauma is an extremely high stakes environment and hence it is correctly believed that optimum trauma management is “a race against time” to save lives. With the launch of this campaign, we aim to capitalize upon the golden hour management in trauma and provide timely and targetted therapeutic intervention for saving lives. We look forward to being the frontline trauma warriors and live up to our dictum – “Every minute counts; Every life matters.”
