Natural Star Nani-Mrunal Thakur starrer “Hi Nanna” is gearing up for worldwide theatrical release on December 7, 2023, in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. Actor Nani was in Chennai to promote the film and here are some interesting moments from the event.
Official Trailer:
Actor Nani said, “Nanna means ‘Appa’ in Tamil, but we felt that retaining the original title in all the languages will be good. It was useful for lip sync in all the languages. Moreover, the word ‘Nanna’ frequently appears throughout the film. It’s a beautiful movie, and I’m saying this after watching the full-length final output. The film is having its worldwide theatrical release on December 7. Although it’s a love story, it will have a riveting and racy impact on the audience. Tamil Nadu has given me lovely support from my initial days, and I am thankful for their gesture. I humbly request you all to support this film.”
Excerpts:
Could you define father-daughter love
There is no separate sentiment or different emotions for father and mother’s love. Love is a universal language. There have been many movies based on mother’s love, and now we find the domain of ‘Father’s Love’ in big numbers. I am a huge fan of Tamil movies, especially a great admirer of Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan movies. I am not fluent in Tamil, but will be soon start speaking it fluently. Initially, when I was working with Tamil directors, Tamil audiences started perceiving it as Telugu movies, and Telugu audiences as Tamil movies. Later, with the arrival of movies like ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Kantara,’ the scenario shifted to a new phase.
Is there any linguistic barrier for actors?
Significantly, now there is no need to make movies with Telugu or Tamil heroes. If there is clarity in story and storytelling, the audiences are ready to accept it beyond the linguistic barriers and the regional boundaries. This has consistently prompted me to choose unique stories that will gain the attention of audiences.
How did you choose your lead pair for this movie?
As a team, we all believed that Mrunal Thakur will be perfect for this role, and she has done a remarkable job.
What will be your next movie?
One of my favourite Tamil directors recently narrated a script and I am so excited about this project, and an official announcement will be made soon.
What were the challenges you faced in this film?
There have been some similarities in theme of ‘Hi Nanna’ with ‘Jersey’, and it was a huge challenge for me to try differentiating both the characters as I play father’s role in these movies.
Whether kissing scenes in movies are still a taboo in India?
These days kissing scenes have become normal. Gone are those days, when those shots would be superimposed with smoke, trees, and flowers, but now it’s 2023, and we cannot cheat the audiences. I think that’s a part of emotions; there’s no need to hide it.
Do you like giving more prominence to woman in films?
Women are playing pivotal roles in our lives, and I am so glad that female characters have more importance in my movies. This film emphasises the beauty of man-woman relationship, and will be liked by all.
‘Hi Nanna’ is produced by Vyra Entertainment Mohan Cherukuri & Dr. Vijender Reddy Teegala at a whopping budget and directed by Shouryuv. The film will have a Pan-Indian release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi worldwide on December 7, 2023.
