Gujarat recorded its highest single-day spike of 1,442 coronavirus cases on Friday, raising the case tally to 1,30,391, the state health department said.
With 12 fatalities, the COVID-19 death toll in the state increased to 3,396, it added.
At the same time, 1,279 patients were discharged, so the number of recovered cases in the state stood at 1,10,490, the department said in its release.

It also improved the state”s recovery rate to 84.78 percent.
The spike of cases in Surat touched the 300-mark for the first time on Friday, while Ahmedabad reported 182 new cases.
Rajkot, Vadodara, and Jamnagar reported 148, 134, and 114 new cases, respectively.
Among other districts, Gandhinagar and Mehsana reported 48 cases each, Bhavnagar 45, Banaskantha 41, Amreli and Patan 34 each, Junagadh and Kutch 30 each, Surendranagar 28, Panchmahal 27, Bharuch 26, Morbi 25, Sabarkantha 14, Anand 13, Dahod and Mahisagar 12 each, Gir Somnath 11, and Aravalli, Botad, Kheda and Narmada ten each.

Out of 12 deaths, Ahmedabad and Vadodara each reported three deaths, Rajkot and Surat two each, and Banaskantha and Gandhinagar one each.
The state’s number of active cases stands at 16,505, out of which 92 patients are on ventilator.
As many as 61,912 COVID-19 tests were conducted on Friday, increasing the number of total samples tested for the virus to 41,10,186, the department said.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,30,391, new cases 1,442, deaths 3,396, discharged 1,10,490, active cases 16,505, and people tested so far 41,10,186.
182 new coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad, three deaths
Coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad district rose to 35,853 with 182 new cases being reported on Friday, the Gujarat health department said.
The district reported three fatalities, raising the COVID-19 death toll to 1,813, it added.
With 125 patients being discharged from hospitals, recoveries in the district went up to 29,742.
Ahmedabad city reported 160 new cases on Friday, while the rural parts reported 22. All three deaths took place at city hospitals.
Out of 125 recoveries, 104 were from the city.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation said the number of micro-containment areas in the city decreased to 235 with the removal of 35 and the addition of seven areas.
AMC teams will carry out surveillance and screening and collect samples of suspected patients in its effort to contain the spread of the virus, it said.
The city has 3,741 active cases, with the west zone accounting for the highest 686 and north zone reporting the lowest 355 cases.
Out of 1,809 beds available across 63 private hospitals for COVID-19 patients in the city, 1,512 are occupied, the Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association said.
Out of 148 beds in ICUs with oxygen, 134 were occupied as of Friday morning, it added.
Surat’s case count grows by 300, death toll by two
Surat reported 300 new coronavirus positive cases on Friday, taking the district’s overall tally to 26,715, Gujarat health department said.
This is the biggest one-day growth registered on Friday in terms of the number of cases for any district in the state.
With two deaths, the district”s fatality count rose to 920, it said.
The city reported184 new cases, while the rural areas reported 116 cases. Both parts of the district reported one death each.
Of the total 285 recoveries reported during the day, 182 were from the city and 103 from the rural parts, the department said.
The number of patients discharged in the district rose to 24,265.
With 18,496 patients getting discharged from hospitals in Surat city, its recovery rate stood at 89.7 percent, the Surat Municipal Corporation said.
Out of the city’s eight zones, Athwa has reported the highest number of 3,641 cases so far, while Udhna has reported the lowest number of 1,703 cases, the civic body said.
As many as 35,969 persons have been quarantined in the city, and 3,934 in the rural parts, officials said.
Out of nine talukas in rural Surat, Kamrej has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths at 1,367 and 82, respectively, officials said.
Umarpada has reported68 cases and one death so far, the lowest among the talukas, they said.
