“Hindi is not rival to other Indian languages, rather it’s their ‘sakhi’ (friend)’,” Shah said at the All India Official Language Conference in  Surat.

“As the country celebrates Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Hindi language should get equal importance. Hindi unites the Nation,” said the union minister in his address to the nation on the occasion of Hindi Diwas.

हिन्दी जनमानस की भाषा है, भारत की अभिव्यक्ति की भाषा है। अनेकता में एकता का स्वर है हिन्दी।

“Under the leadership of PM Modi, efforts are underway to promote our official language Hindi,” Shah added. This is the first time that this annual program is being organized outside Delhi on the occasion of Hindi Diwas.

The 2022 edition of the conference is being organised at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Indoor Stadium here on the occasion of Hindi Day.

“Rajbhasha Hindi unites the nation in the thread of unity. Hindi is the friend of all Indian languages. The Modi government is committed towards parallel development of all local languages including Hindi,” Shah tweeted in Hindi on Wednesday.

“I salute the great personalities who have contributed in the preservation and promotion of Hindi. Happy ‘Hindi Divas’ to all,” he added.

Hindi Divas is observed all over the country on September 14. It was on this day in 1949 when the Constitution-makers of the country decided to accord the status of Official Language of the Union to Hindi.

Hindi is spoken by over 400 million people as a first language while 120 million use Hindi as a second language.

During his day-long visit to Surat, Shah will also visit Kribhco Township at Hazira near Surat where he will lay the foundation stone of a bio-ethanol plant.

The Union minister reached Surat on Tuesday night.
