Free training for farmers jointly organized by the Save Soil Movement of Isha Foundation was held on Saturday (March 25, 2023).
Plant Health Initiative was funded by CGIAR, World vegetable Centre Taiwan and Centre for Plant Protection Studies, Directorate of Extension Education – Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore.
In the training conducted at Isha Natural Farm in Semmedu, the experts from their various fields talk about the basic issues of farmers such as methods of organic vegetable cultivation without pesticides, weed, and pest management, diseases affecting crops, and their natural solutions.
Dr. Angappan from the Department of Crop Pathology explained about diseases affecting crops including pathogens like fungi and viruses. Dr. N. Manikanda Boopathi from the Department of Biotechnology; Assistant Director of Horticulture, Mrs. Dr. Nandini; Training Division and Directorate of Agricultural Extension Education, Dr. Anandaraja; and J Prabakaran from Isha Save Soil movement shared their expertise and answered the queries of the participants.
Dr. Srinivasan explained the types of nematodes, their attacks, and ways to avoid them.
To impart field experience, the trainers of the Save soil Movement took the participants around the model farm in Semmudu and explained various farming techniques. So far, more than 20000 farmers have benefitted from the various training conducted by the movement, according to a release.
