Even as the Indian Air Force has been helping the country to contain the spread of pandemic, its mission has widened now as Cyclone Tauktae is set to hit the nation.

The IAF has kept 16 transport aircraft and 18 helicopters on op readiness in peninsular India in preparation for the Cyclone Tauktae which is expected to cause very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall along the western coast of India in the next few days, says a release.
One IL-76 aircraft has airlifted 127 personnel and 11 tonnes of cargo from Bhatinda to Jamnagar. A C-130 aircraft has airlifted 25 personnel and 12.3 tonnes cargo from Bhatinda to Rajkot. Two C-130 aircraft have airlifted 126 personnel and 14 tonnes cargo from Bhubaneswar to Jamnagar.

Indian Coast Guard alerts fishermen to return harbour
A cyclonic storm “ Tauktae” lay centered approximately 620 KM South-South West of Mumbai and likely move north north eastward towards Gujarat coast around May 18. The Indian Coast Guard initiated mitigating measure to avoid risk of life and property at sea. Towards the endeavour the Indian Coast Guard issued advisory through the Ships and Aircraft on routine patrol regularly transmitting message to the Fisherman so as to return harbour prior to cyclone hitting the coast.
