The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has opened its sixth chapter in the US in Chicago and 40th chapter worldwide. The chapter was inaugurated by the Consul General, Amit Kumar, on Saturday, April 24.

Gaurav Jain, president of the Chicago chapter said the chapter would serve Chicago and its neighboring areas. The Chicago chapter is set up close on the heels of opening one in Washington DC recently.
ICAI inaugurated its 39th overseas chapter in Washington DC in February. This is the fifth chapter in the US which now joins San Francisco, New York, Houston, and New England chapters. The event was attended by many chartered accountants across the world, as well as students, and the business community.
The Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who inaugurated the chapter said, “Expertise and experience of CAs can be critical in strengthening India’s priorities with the new US administration in the areas of digital and technology, as well as educational and knowledge partnerships.”
He asked the chapter to coordinate with the International Federation of Accountants (IFA) and have knowledge partnerships with key academic and professional organizations in the US.
Speaking at the event, Guest of Honor, Maryland State Senator James Rosapepe appreciated the role played by CAs in supporting small businesses during the COVID-19 crisis, and also their education and skills contributing towards a stronger US economy.
ICAI President CA Atul Kumar Gupta provided an overview of ICAI and the role various international chapters play in strengthening bilateral relationships between the countries.
Mahaveer Singhvi of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said the professionals are an important part of Indian diaspora occupying important positions in the industry and public life.
Vish Arunachalam, founder of the San Francisco chapter, said, “The recent webinar organised on NRI tax trends by the chapter was successful. In the USA, many CAs, though not CPAs, are well diversified in their profession. Many are into automation, Big Data, fintech, technical Sales – IT, ERP Functional and Start-Ups.”
ICAI San Francisco bags Best Chapter Overseas award for 2020
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) at its 71st Annual Function held in New Delhi in February awarded San Francisco Chapter as the Best Chapter Overseas award for2020.
Dr Sujatha Sunil of New Delhi received the Best Chapter Overseas award in person on behalf of ICAI San Francisco.
ICAI San Francisco Chapter was recognized for its outstanding efforts in enhancing the presence of ICAI in the USA.

Ministry of External Affairs empowers overseas chapters of ICAI
Recently, the Ministry of External Affairs of India has recognised the overseas chapters of ICAI at par with other Apex Trade and Industry organizations such as CII, FICCI and ASSOCHAM for purposes of economic engagement, consular facilitations such as issue of passports and attestation of commercial documents to Implementing the Vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
