The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) bid an affectionate farewell to Additional Director General KR Suresh, PTM, TM, Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard) who attained the age of superannuation on Sunday.
KR Suresh throughout his illustrious career has exhibited exceptional professionalism and unwavering dedication to the values and goals of the ICG.
Additional Director General KR Suresh, PTM, TM, Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard) superannuated from service on Sunday, 31 March 2024. ADG has served the nation with unparalleled dedication for 37 years, leaving a legacy of leadership and excellence.
The officer was born in Chennai and joined the Indian Coast Guard on 19th January 1987. On elevation to the rank of Additional Director General, he took over the command of the Western Seaboard wef 13th September 2022 and has been in Command for almost 19 months. During this period the Western Seaboard has successfully saved 184 lives, 26 successful Medical evacuations, even from islands at fringes of EEZ of the West Coast. The seaboard was successful in conduct of anti-narcotics and smuggling operations wherein narcotics amounting to Rs. 1,700 crore, illegal diesel, and tobacco products have been seized.
The team of Western Seaboard has also been awarded prestigious 02 President Tatrakshak Medals, 05 Tatrakshak Medals and 209 Director General Indian Coast Guard Commendations with him being at the helm of Indian Coast Guard Western Seaboard.
The Officer is a specialist in Communication and Electronic Warfare. He is an alumni of the prestigious National Defence College, New Delhi, College of Naval Warfare, Mumbai and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
The Flag Officer during his illustrious career has commanded almost all classes of Coast Guard Ships. His important Command appointments ashore include Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N), Commander Coast Guard State Karnataka and Commanding Officer ICGS Mandapam.
He has held various key staff appointments viz Principal Director (Operations & Coastal Security) at CGHQ, New Delhi, Officer-in-Charge Bureau of Naviks at Mumbai, and Deputy Director General (Operations & Coastal Security) at Coast Guard Headquarters. During the tenure as DDG (Ops & CS) at CGHQ, New Delhi, ICG attained renewed Operational Tempo and glory in the conduct of national, International level operations and exercises.
ADG Suresh is married to Jayanthi Suresh for over 34 years. The couple has a daughter, Shwetha, an engineer married to Maheshh and has a grandson, Lakshh. The Flag officer will be settling in his home town Chennai.
