AHMEDABAD, JUNE 28
Responding to an emergency, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), the Maritime Armed Force launched its Advanced Light Helicopter for a medical evacuation of a foreign national from the Arabian Sea on Tuesday. The patient was safely brought to Porbandar and shifted to Government Hospital at Porbandar despite unconducive monsoon weather conditions at sea.

“On Tuesday, June 27, evening, ICG Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) Porbandar received a distress alert regarding a medical emergency onboard Romanian Merchant Vessel MT Gas Pisces, a LPG carrier, which was sailing towards Male from Mundra port in Gujarat. The position of the Merchant Vessel was ascertained and found to be approx 90 kms off Porbandar coast in the Arabian Sea,” an ICG release said.
The Captain of the merchant vessel, a Romanian national named Gabriel Paraschiv, suffered a Cardiac Arrest and was in urgent need of medical evacuation for saving his life. The Indian Coast Guard sprung into action, and an ICG ALH was launched immediately towards the vessel in deep sea. On reaching it, in a short time the patient was lifted into the helicopter from the deck of the vessel.

A Medical Officer of the ICG in the helicopter provided immediate medical care to the patient. He was quickly transported back to Porbandar thus facilitating further medical management, the statement added.
