The Coast Guard District Headquarters No 15 (North Gujarat) of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted a Special Community Interaction Programme (CIP) at RK Bandar, Okha on Monday.

It was attended by representatives of Fisheries Department, Forest Department, Indian Meteorological Department, Marine Police Okha and Fisheries association members. The aim of the CIP was to create awareness amongst fishermen community about safety of life and property at sea during monsoon.

The event witnessed an active participation of approximately 80 fishermen which was conducted in Gujarati and Hindi language. The Programme aimed to educate the fishermen about the importance of carrying valid documents, Online Token Management System and carriage of lifesaving gears while venturing into sea. Further, IMD representative briefed the fishing community about the forthcoming monsoon and various signs of cyclonic weather.
Practical demonstrations were undertaken on donning of Life Jackets, CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) and correct usage of Lifebuoys. Fishing community were also informed regarding Search and Rescue (SAR) Helpline Toll Free Number 1554 for seeking SAR assistance at sea.
