“The Indian Coast Guard has successfully conducted medical evacuation of an Indonesian national from a foreign vessel, MV Wave, around 90 km south of Diu in Arabian sea off Gujarat,” the Ministry of Defence said.
“The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai received information regarding medical emergency onboard MV Wave located about 90 km south of Diu. The information was disseminated to MRSC Porbandar of the Indian Coast Guard. Considering the criticality of the situation, the Indian Coast Guard Ship C-149 patrolling in the area was diverted to respond for evacuating the patient. District Administration, State Police, Immigration and Govt Hospital were also sensitised about the impending MEDEVAC,” the statement added.
Undeterred by the challenging conditions at sea, ICG boarding team comprising medical specialist embarked onboard. The Indonesian nationality crew was examined with high fever and stomach-ache and was stabilised by the Medical Team. The patient was then shifted to the Indian Coast Guard ship and is being taken to Veraval for further medical treatment.
The safe and professional evacuation is yet another example of Indian Coast Guard living up to the motto of “We Protect”
