Indian Coast Guard Eastern Region has conducted a special awareness programme for fisherfolk of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to educate them about safety of life at sea and importance of coastal security.
As part of this initiative, two hundred Community Interaction Programmes were conducted by Indian Coast Guard units of Eastern Region at 188 villages of 24 Coastal Districts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu during March 2022.
Fishermen were imparted with hands-on training on safety equipment, communication equipment, first aid on general injuries and snake bite at sea.
During the interaction the role of fishermen as ‘Eye and Ears’ in ensuring Coastal Security of the country was also emphasized.
About Ten Thousand fishermen along with Fisheries Authorities and other Stakeholders participated in the Awareness Programme.
The fisheries authorities and owner of the boat were advised to ensure mandatory carriage of safety equipment for safety of lives at sea. They were also advised to refrain from any illegal activities at sea.
