The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Friday announced that it had rescued a fisherman who was bitten by a snake in mid-sea on Thursday, says a Defence release said.
In a swift operation coordinated by the Indian Coast Guard Station Dwarka on Thursday, the Coast Guard ship (C-152) undertook evacuation of the master of an Indian fishing boat Rutika who had suffered a snake bite while retrieving the fishing nets at sea 17 nautical miles south west off Dwarka.
C-152 was diverted from operational deployment for above mentioned causality evacuation and proceeded back after handing over the patient to marine police boat, the statement added.
The patient along with one attendant was embarked onboard the Coast Guard ship and initial medical aid was provided to the patient. The patient was brought to Okha harbour for further medical management at DHQ-15 and post stabilization shifted to Govt Hospital in Dwarka by service ambulance for further treatment. The patient is reported to be stable.
In a similar incident, Indian coast had provided assistance to distressed fishermen off Vadinar, about a month ago.
