The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) celebrated International Day of Yoga all over the country with fervour on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

To mark the occasion, The Indian Coast Guard created coastal ring or Sagarmala all along the country’s coastline by organizing special yoga sessions at all stations, ships and units in the coastal states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal as well as in the far-flung islands of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep.

The coastal ring created all along the peninsular India from Kutch (Gujarat) to Kolkata (West Bengal) symbolizing sacrosanct Yoga participation by Indian Coast Guard personnel was based on this year’s theme ‘Ocean Ring of Yoga’. The islands (A&N and Lakshadweep) hinterland stations (Gandhinagar-Delhi) depicted their active presence as jewel to this ring.

The day witnessed an enthusiastic participation at Delhi NCR by Coast Guard fraternity where over 500 enthusiasts joined, demonstrating their commitment not only to safeguarding the nation’s vast coast line but also towards fostering a healthy and balanced. The event was inaugurated by ADG Rakesh Pal, PTM, TM, DGICG (Addl Charge) in the presence of Dipa Pal, President Tatrakshika and senior officers.

Over ICG personnel celebrate IYD across Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Puducherry formations
Overall, more than 1,500 ICG personnel positioned at units in TN, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh and their families participated in Yoga activities conducted on Wednesday,
A combined Yoga session for the Coast Guard personnel and families was conducted in Chennai for about 150 participants. The event was graced by Inspector General Anand Prakash Badola, PTM, TM, Commander, Coast Guard Region East.
In his address to the participants, IG AP Badola expressed that practice of Yoga is a holistic approach to integrate mind and body. Achieving total wellness through Yoga is especially relevant to the personnel of armed forces who are working in challenging conditions onboard ships deployed at sea or in stations located at remote places. Recognizing its universal appeal, Indian Coast Guard has integrated Yoga as an important part of daily fitness routine followed by all its personnel. He also informed that ICG has emphasized practice of Yoga amongst all coastal communities, including fishing community, through joint meetings and interactive programs.
Apart from Chennai, special Yoga sessions were also conducted for Coast Guard personnel stationed in units located along Andhra, Puducherry and other parts of Tamil Nadu Coast. Major events were conducted at ICG State Level Headquarters at Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Puducherry and Tuticorin.
About 350 participants attended a Yoga session consisting of ICG personnel their families at Vizag. Similarly, at Tuticorin, Yoga session organized on IDY-23 was attended by about 150 ICG personnel including families. The ICG District level HQ at Puducherry conducted Yoga program for about 70 participants.

In the run up for International Yoga Day 2023, the Indian Coast Guard embraced the spirit by organizing various sessions across the country. The participation was not only limited to Coast Guard personnel, their families but also the fisher-folk, and other stakeholders joined in large number at various locations. The aim of these events was to create awareness about Yoga’s holistic benefits, debunk any misconceptions, and inspire people to make Yoga a part of their daily lives.
The inclusion of Yoga in ICG personnel’s routine has greatly benefited them in their physical endurance and in managing stress and enhancing mental strength. The practice of Yoga has enabled the Coast Guard Personnel to maintain their peak performance levels and stay calm and composed even in challenging situations at sea. The Indian Coast Guard’s participation in International Yoga Day 2023 showcased their commitment to holistic development and well-being.

South Western Air Command Headquarters in Gandhinagar celebrates IYD
Like every year, since the adoption of resolution by United Nation General Assembly on 11th Dec 2014 to celebrate 21st June as the International Day of Yoga, this year also, Yoga Day was celebrated at all Air Force Stations under South Western Air Command (SWAC) on Wednesday with full enthusiasm, wherein all personnel and their families participated in the activities.

Yoga and meditation session was conducted as per common yoga protocol issued by the Ministry of Ayush. The yoga session included various asanas (stretching, standing, sitting, prone, supine and breathing exercises etc), meditation and concluded with the yoga sankalp by Beena Rawat and her team.
