The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) announced that it has conducted Special Community Interaction Programmes (CIP) at RK Bandar, Okha and Bharana & Bedi villages.

While the ICG District Headquarters No. 15 (North Gujarat) conducted the Special Community Interaction Programme (CIP) at RK Bandar, Okha on Wednesday, its Station Vadinar conducted it at Bharana & Bedi village on Thursday in coordination with the Fisheries Department, the Indian Meteorological Department, the Forest Department and the Marine Police, Okha.

The event, which was conducted in Gujarati and Hindi languages witnessed active participation of local fishermen. The programme focussed on educating the fishermen about the importance of carrying valid documents, lifesaving gears while venturing into sea for fishing, Carriage of Distress Alert Transmitter (DATs) for seeking assistance of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) whenever in distress and also not to venture at sea during fishing ban period. The fishing populace was briefed on how to use IMD website on their smartphones and institute measures whilst berthed ashore in case of adverse weather conditions. Exemption of non-motorized boats from this ban was also highlighted. Practical demonstrations were given about correct wearing of Life Jackets and correct usage of Lifebuoys.
The Fishing community was also informed regarding Search and Rescue (SAR) Help Line Toll Free Number 1554 for seeking SAR assistance at sea.
As part of International Year of the Millet-2023, the fishermen community was also informed about how Millets have plethora of health benefits and are also good for the environment, with low water input requirements.
