As the world unites on World Environment Day 2025 to champion sustainability, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) stands at the forefront of marine conservation, reinforcing its commitment to protecting India’s vast coastal heritage.

This year’s theme on world environment day, #BeatPlasticPollution, underscores the urgency of tackling marine contamination
In commemoration of World Environment Day 2025, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) undertook a series of environment-focused activities across the North West Region to reinforce its commitment to sustainability and ecological conservation.
The main tree plantation drive was conducted at Lekawada, Gandhinagar, under the aegis of Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North West). Officers, men, civilian staff, and their families actively participated in the initiative with great enthusiasm, resulting in the plantation of over 200 trees, promoting awareness on the importance of green cover and reduction in plastic usage.

Simultaneously, Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 1 (Porbandar) and District Headquarters No. 15 (Okha) also organised similar plantation drives and community awareness programs. Notably, the District Headquarters planned and conducted an elaborate campaign that included a tree plantation drive, Walkathon, Coastal Cleanup, and Community Interaction Programmes aimed at building environmental consciousness among the local population and fostering a culture of collective responsibility for coastal and marine conservation.
Across all participating units under CGRHQ(NW), more than 1000 trees were planted, with over 500 trees planted on 5th June alone, setting a benchmark for coordinated green action across the region.
The Indian Coast Guard, entrusted with maritime environmental protection, routinely undertakes proactive initiatives on land and at sea to encourage environmental stewardship. These observances and drives echo the ICG’s enduring commitment to safeguarding the marine ecosystem and nurturing sustainable coastal communities.
