Indian Coast Guard has rescued five fishermen from a sinking boat off the Porbandar coast on Sunday.
A release from ICG said that on receiving SOS call by the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre Porbandar of ICGs Dist HQ -1 (South Gujarat Daman & Diu), the ICG Ship C-161 commanded by Asst Comdt Karthikeyan was rushed immediately from Porbandar and reached out to the fishing boat Premsagar
after receiving input from local fishermen and evacuated 5 fishermen from the sinking boat.
The ICG members ceasing of flood from the sinking boat temporarily and the half submerged boat
was attempted to be towed with another fishing boat in vicinity. However as fishing boat was already 75 % flooded, resultant damages caused sinking of the boat 12 kms off Porbandar.
The fishermen were given medical support and brought to Porbandar and handed over to Fisheries Association, the release added.
