108 bags containing 3.5 tonne of ‘tendu’ (East Indian ebony) leaves worth Rs 2.5 crore were seized near the Gulf of Mannar on Wednesday, said the Coast Guard here.

Acting on inputs, the Coast Guard ship ‘Vajra’ intercepted an Indian Fishing Boat near IMBL – off Tamil Nadu coast on Wednesday.
The fishermen in the boat, upon seeing the Coast Guard, tried to flee but were apprehended near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
The boat has been brought to Tuticorin harbour and handed over to local authorities for legal action.
A total of 108 bags was confiscated, a release said.
