The Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur after completing the online admission process for the 2020-22 MBA and 2020 PhD batch has inaugurated the new academic session in the online mode. The inaugural ceremony was conducted in the virtual mode due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown imposed, an institute release said.
The inauguration session was conducted with Guru Prasad Mohapatra, IAS, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour and Keynote speaker, Prabhjeet Singh, President Uber India, and South Asia along with Professor Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur who also gave the welcome address.
The MBA programme was introduced by Professor Atri Sengupta, Chairman, PGP and PhD programme of the institute was inaugurated by Professor Balamurugan Annamalai, Chairman PhD programme. The institute in a statement released added that the 6th MBA batch is a vibrant combination of gender and academic diversity consisting of 168 students.
Professor Jaiswal while speaking at the inaugural ceremony stated that inclusivity is one of the core values of IIM Sambalpur and the university has most diverse class profile this year in terms of gender diversity with 40 percent female candidates, socio-economic class and diverse academic background along with rich industry experience with a representation of more than 17 states or union territories in the country. He further added that the institute has increased the total intake from 100 to 165.
He also added that among the students who have taken the admissions this academic year, 72 percent belong to the Engineering background while the remaining 28 percent are from other subject backgrounds and 60 percent come with prior work experience in the industry. He further expressed his confidence in the institute to bring out responsible leaders with entrepreneurial minds.
The 5-day Induction programme will be addressed by a host of eminent and notable leaders from the industry and the Government. The guests who will honour the induction week include Dinesh Murugesan, Head HR, DSM, Rasmi Swain, Principal- Risk Management & Information Security at Infosys Member, SMU (Dallas), V. Owing to the current circumstances, IIM Sambalpur will be conducting online classes with the help of several digital tools and processes to facilitate effective learning for its students. Taking forth the concept of Flipped classrooms, Learning Management Software like Moodle will be utilized, and students and faculty members will interact regularly through VC. Furthermore, the institute has smart classrooms equipped with SMART Boards, where students can log in and access notes, presentations, curriculum schedules and even test their own knowledge through built-in quizzes. All examinations of IIM Sambalpur will be conducted through online processes as well, either by using online proctoring systems for descriptive exams or using LMS for the quiz and multiple-choice exams. Team projects will also be conducted virtually as per the trend in the industry.
