IIT Gandhinagar celebrated its brightest young achievers at the Young Alumni Excellence Awards 2024, held on December 5, marking an evening of inspiration, recognition, and strong alumni connect.
“As a relatively young institute, IIT Gandhinagar is proud to see its alumni placing their footprints firmly in the cement and shaping the institute’s identity with their achievements,” said Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Gandhinagar, lauding the awardees for elevating IITGN’s global stature.
The ceremony brought together students, faculty, and alumni to honour exceptional contributions in innovation, research, entrepreneurship, and societal impact.
Alumni Strengthen IITGN’s Legacy
Welcoming the gathering, Prof Leslee Lazar, Faculty In-Charge, Alumni Relations, highlighted the deep commitment of the alumni community.
“Just a few weeks ago, more than 50 alumni volunteered their time without being asked or compensated, coaching our undergraduate students during placement week. Their willingness to stay connected reflects the spirit of IITGN,” he said.
Emphasising the institute’s rapidly evolving academic landscape, Prof Moona pointed to newly launched programs in Artificial Intelligence and IC Design, among the first of their kind in the IIT system.
“With a growing student and faculty community, the institute stands at an exciting point in its evolution. Each achievement of our alumni strengthens our belief that we are on the right path,” he added.
Prof SP Mehrotra, Dean of Academic Affairs, underscored the crucial role alumni play in mentoring students and shaping IITGN’s long-term vision.
Meet the 2024 Awardees
This year’s awards recognised five outstanding young alumni:
- Vishnu Gupta – Outstanding Professional Achievement Award for leadership and excellence in his industry.
- Sumitava Mukherjee, Abhik Patel, Ajinkya Kulkarni – Outstanding Academic Achievement Award for notable scholarly accomplishments and academic influence.
- Nisarg Shah – Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award for impactful innovation and entrepreneurial success.
The awardees shared personal journeys, professional milestones, and the role IITGN played in shaping their careers. A special video presentation curated by Nisarg Shah showcased alumni impact across sectors—from deep tech and academia to social innovation.
The evening concluded with a musical performance and dinner, strengthening bonds within the IITGN community and celebrating the growing legacy of its young achievers.
