The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) warmly welcomed the delegation from IIT Kottayam on Thursday morning at Ahmedabad railway station. The visit is part of the ‘Yuva Sangam’ programme, a unique initiative under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ (EBSB) mission, envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to foster unity and cultural integration across India’s diverse states and Union Territories (UTs).

The delegation was formally welcomed at a ceremony held at the Jibaben Patel Memorial Auditorium, where Prof Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Gandhinagar, addressed the gathering. Highlighting the essence of the programme, he said, “India’s unity in diversity is beautifully exemplified in the Yuva Sangam programme, fostering connections between states like Gujarat and Kerala. Despite their differences in language, culture, and traditions, they share fascinating links; many of you may not know of Raja Ravi Varma, a renowned painter from Kerala who the Maharaja of Vadodara patronised. His works, seen in palaces across Vadodara palace, Mysuru palace, and across Kerala, symbolise the shared heritage that binds us.”  This Yuva Sangam programme celebrates the unifying thread connecting India’s diverse regions, reminding us that, despite our differences, we remain one, he added.

Earlier to the director’s address, Prof Manish Kumar, Associate Dean of Student Development, addressed the participants, sharing insights about IIT Gandhinagar and the broader vision of Yuva Sangam. He encouraged participants to make meaningful connections: “Interact with people around you, explore their culture, and make the best of this opportunity.”

The Yuva Sangam programme aims to facilitate cultural immersion, promote mutual understanding, and build bonds among youth from different regions. Over the coming days, the delegation will engage in various activities, including cultural exchanges, interactive sessions, and field visits to experience Gujarat’s rich heritage and vibrant traditions.
