NE EDUCATION BUREAU

GANDHINAGAR, SEP 22

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) on Wednesday announced that one of its visiting faculties Prof Michel Danino has been selected as a member of the National Steering Committee for the development of National Curriculum Frameworks (NCFs), says a release.

The 12-member committee formed by the Ministry of Education on September 21, 2021, will be headed by National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020) drafting committee chairperson and former chief of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Dr K Kasturirangan. The committee will discuss different aspects and develop four National Curriculum Frameworks — i.e., for School Education, Early Childhood Care and Education, Teacher Education, and Adult Education, focusing on all the recommendations of NEP 2020 related to these four areas. The tenure of the National Steering Committee will be three years, the statement said

Prof Michel Danino is a well-known Indian author of French origin and an expert on Indian civilisation and culture. In 2017, the Government of India had honoured him with Padma Shri for his contribution towards Literature & Education. Apart from many research papers and popular articles, he authored The Lost River: On the Trail of the Sarasvati (Penguin India, 2010) and Indian Culture and India’s Future (DK Printworld, 2011).

Prof Danino has also been involved in projects with NCERT and CBSE. With Prof Kapil Kapoor, he co-edited a two-volume textbook, Knowledge Traditions and Practices of India (2013 & 2015), for a CBSE elective course for classes XI and XII. More recently, he edited Sri Aurobindo and India’s Rebirth (Rupa Books, 2018). Prof Danino has been associated with IITGN since 2011 and coordinates the activities of the Archaeological Sciences Centre. His research interests include: archaeology and history of ancient India, history of Indian science and technology, Indian Knowledge Systems, Indian heritage, and cultural education.
