AHMEDABAD, JUNE 9
The Institute of Kidney Diseases & Research Centre (IKDRC), one of the best renal care hospitals in India, on Tuesday announced that it will resume day-to-day functions on Wednesday, a hospital release said.
IKDRC, popularly known as Kidney hospital, will open its doors for OPD and indoor patients in need of critical care on Wednesday. But the consultations and admission, this time, will be under the purview of a new set of stringent guidelines issued by the ICMR and NOTTO. The institute has also geared itself to conduct cadaver transplants as per the new set of guidelines.
“We will strictly abide by guidelines when it comes to performing elective surgeries and admitting patients in need of critical care,” Dr Vineet Mishra, Director IKDRC-ITS said in a statement released on Tuesday. Ample safeguards are also taken by the institute to demarcate COVID and non-COVID areas with separate entry-exit routes.
However, IKDRC ran an extra mile to provide succour to its outdoor patients, who were not able to visit the hospital, during various phases of nationwide lockdown.
The institute made arrangements to ensure door delivery of subsidised medicines to patients at various locations across the country. “We have also offered free dialysis to thousands of patients under Gujarat Dialysis Programme and free consultations through telemedicine,” added Dr Mishra.
Around 5,000 patients visit IKDRC premises while 2,000 people take benefit of consultations through telemedicine every month.
Other departments under its aegis will also be resuming their daily functions on Wednesday, the statement said. IKDRC suspended elective surgeries to implement ‘Common Consensus Guidelines for Infection Prevention and Control’ following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
Part of the institute was later converted into COVID-19 care centre especially for patients with underlying renal problems. The institute started receiving COVID-19 referrals in May and continues to operate as COVID-19 care centre.
